A lad from Lewes has sent TDO this via e-mail, and it appears he and his colleagues will not being joining the GMB.

Alex

Sir,

I'd like to draw your attention to the following GMB publicity statement on the web at this web address: http://www.gmb.org.uk/Templates/PressIt ... deID=95400.

We, Lewes District drivers have produced a response covering all legal aspects curiously overlooked by the GMB rep and question the ethics of the GMB itself for allowing such nonesense on it's site.

Our response is attached http://www.taxi-driver.co.uk/GMBResponse.doc if at all though it contains fact only and nothing contentious.

However, perhaps you could present some form of publicity for our response from the view that drivers will join an organisation that represents the interests of all without falsely tarnishing the image of some drivers.

The attachement begins with a circulation list for the document and then our responses but you may just need to view the above addressed web page to get the nonesense and lies of the GMB rep.

Hopefully you can see your way to have this topic aired and discussed.

Thanking you in advance for your time and consideration

Ted Johnson.

Obviously Mr Johnson has taken a stand on what he sees as unfounded allegations. I know for a fact that Bill Nailen wasn't too pleased and considering the unfounded content in the GMB statement I'm not surprised.

If you are going to make allegations such as these then in order to be taken seriously at some stage they are going to have to be substantiated. The GMB has failed to do that and likewise the councillors concerned. Therefore one has to look at the ulterior motive for making these allegations?

I've already highlighted the inconstancies in the statement in another thread but it is nice to see those to whom the allegations were directed making a stand in their own defence.

Did the GMB ever put a name to the person responsible for writing this observation or did it write itself?

Regards

JD

I heard a rumour that the press release was drafted by the councillors themselves in an attempt to slag off the Libs in Lewes and the Tories in Adur and Mid Sussex.

Clearly it didn't work for Mr Burgess or his party as neither of them are still in office. Not saying that's a good or bad thing, just a fact. :?

So they are now just plain Mr Burgess and Mr Hawkes or is that Mrs Hawkes? However, I assume they still know very little about the Taxi trade with or without the distinction of being a councillor?

Good on Ted for putting the lies from the gmb union to the test.

We have two council tests a year. Brighton have one.

Also two Lewes firms are owned by streamline. So is that Brighton firm a lover of bad standards.

I would pass on a comment to the Brighton gmb union and thats never stick you head out around Lewes or Seaford station.

If they can first get it out of there arses.

Surely that can't be correct?

Only those that know can confirm or deny.

So maybe someone could ask those that know on another site.

So we have a mystery of who actually wrote it? That doesn't surprise me in the least. If we consider it came from Brighton then it would be logical to assume that it was written by the Brighton GMB? If it was written by the Brighton GMB then it would obviously have been written by someone in authority?

Therefore perhaps it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume that it was written by the branch secretary of the Brighton GMB or whatever its called?

Give Gateshead Angel of the NE GMB his due, if he had written such a critical aclaim of bordering councils he wouldn't have been shy about putting his name to it.

Regards

JD

Ah Well!! We be City Folk and you be Country Bumpkins. Obviously not upto or aware of the sofistication of bright lights and complicated highways. You need help fixing a Sat Nav to your Horse and Cart and not to chew straw in the company of genteel folks like wot we is.

Just exclusion politics. Keeping Brighton trade for Brightonians. Need an international trade summit to breakdown embargos.

I can't decide whether thats a compliment or whether you are in fact being sarcastic.

Either way cheers for thinking of me.

I think it's a compliment saying you don't hide behind someone else.

That said I wonder how many new members you would recuit in your neighbouring areas if Flanagan had a pop at all of them in the press? [-(

I don't wish to comment on your complaint Ted as I wasn't involved, nor does it concern the T&G. But I would be happy to arrange for one of our local cab driver members to pay you and your fellow drivers a visit.

That's all 'fine and dandy' and very noble of you Tommy, but could you imagine the T&G doing what the GMB did? :?

I think the T&G would have done what their members directed them to do Sussex.

I think the wording of everything could have been, or possibly should have been different .................... but whats done is done and the members are obviously happy.
