Taxi talks

The Oxford Times

COUNCILLORS are set to discuss plans to allow private hire vehicles to use bus lanes. At present, Hackney carriage taxis can use bus lanes, but not private hire vehicles.

Oxfordshire County Council's transport decisions committee will discuss the issue today.

Mr Hudspeth said: "We just want more information. We're not saying we're not going to do it."

Perhaps all is not lost for Oxford P/H?

At least some councillors know best.

BUS LANES FOR TAXI DRIVERS

Taxi drivers should be able to use bus lanes at all times as a way of easing traffic congestion, according to a group of Aberdeen councillors.

Labour members of Aberdeen City Council have raised a motion to allow taxis and private hire vehicles to use the lanes when they are not carrying fare-paying passengers.

Councillor Jenny Laing, the Labour party's spokeswoman on transport, said: "Taxis should be a very important part of the council's plans to ease traffic congestion."
