I'm sure many subscribers will be aware of the extensive coverage TDO gave to the issue of the removal of the turning circle condition in Leicester? We highlighted the mutual attraction of both Swift cars and LTI and why they jumped into bed in order to try and keep the condition alive? It might not come as a surprise to many on here to learn that Swift taxis are now appealing the decision of Leicester council to make all cabs black. I understand there is a thread running about the legality of such a condition well it seems to me you won't have to wait long to get your answer? Swift Taxis is contesting the city council ruling that all cabs should be black and decorated with the authority's crest. At Leicester County Court this week, Mr Recorder Maw set dates for a two-day hearing, on January 21 and 22. Regards JD |

That will be very interesting. But alas I think he will lose unless the council has done something right daft. |

Please don't get me wrong, I hope he wins, but councils will use the safety issue i.e. stop folks getting into an unlicensed vehicle. From a lay-mans position, is having a fleet of taxis all one colour unfair and unreasonable? |

I agree as I said on another thread, after taking legal advice we were told not to waste our money opposing the scheme to make all cars in York black, at the moment when a hackney in York pulls up for a customer the only thing that informs the customer that it is a legal York Hackney is a plate on the BACK, we have a ryedale out of town hackney who regularly picks up in York and evertyone moans about him, when we all go black and have a crest on the door he will not be able to do that, but some of the older dinosaurs are reluctant to change. |

Yes, and at the end of the day requiring a black saloon is chicken feed as compared to a mandatory WAV policy and/or the turning circle. |
