Just had a wee look at a secret report Dundee City Council have drawn up thanks to the efforts of Stephens,Thorson,Elder etc Dundee City Council will announce all taxi's are to be wheelchair accessible this will be made public in January 2008. Now I'm sure there will be posters thinking I'm at it but I can assure you this will happen, after the abuse our esteemed leaders have chucked at the council and chief executive this was always going to be the outcome so when you are deciding what to do wether renew or go private hire remember and ask the leaders to form a new association ie Dundee Private Hire Association to take up the challenge of protecting excabbies rights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

There will be just one problem with that and that is the Scottish best practice should be out before then and it most probably will state that there must be a mixture of saloons and waves as taxis http://taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtop ... highlight= http://taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtop ... 1&start=20 so go and tell your source that they will be in the sheit if they go ahead with it |

I think if the Scottish Best Practise Guidance does say a mixed fleet is good, then who from Glasgow or Edinburgh will gain permission to licensed taxi Skodas? I may well be wrong but I doubt they will say mixed is good, they might say consult with residents and business, and then decide. But I can't see them recommending a blanket mixed fleet. Back to the issue of WAVs, personally I think if a council says a certain % of taxi drivers must have WAVs, then I think that % should be 100.

yes I know there are the PH options but if someone wants a taxi from a rank or flags one down they should have the choice I sort of agree with what you say, but I'm pretty certain those that can't get into a WAV seem to get home OK in the likes of Glasgow, Edinburgh, London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester etc etc But my point is more towards what's expected of drivers/owners. How can it be fair to say to one fully licensed cab driver he should pay up to £15,000 for a new cab, and another up to £35,000?

Well then if a council area is short on WAVs, then best that concil subsidise drivers who wish to license them. In the same way as councils subsidise bus routes that no operator finds viable.

Renfrewshire Council introduced a policy from the 1st Jan 2002 that all taxis have to WAV & even then when they are over 8 years old they are too old & off to the scrapyard they go (or Blackpool) Renfrewshire Taxi Policy |

Didn't the Milton Keynes taxi trade win the right in court to retain saloons? I can't see why the same decision might not be echoed in Dundee. Regards JD |

I can see a few bonfires lite to keep the kids of Whitfield and balerno warm The council cannot just introduce an all wav policy without consultation, and if they did how many would be out of a job, how many could afford 22k for an E7, the TX4 is off the menu as its fecking dangerous, the diablo will be for ever in the gararge getting fixed. So start fighting now not next year |

Who are you kidding dundee wav ? It was me who informed you on this site regarding the Council's wheelchair policy,Dave Young has nothing to do with it. You are entitled to a copy of the agenda go and get one and you'll see who wanted it on the agenda(Eric save our taxi trade Thorson) Skippy you are obviously new to the trade or forgot when Dundee City Council sent out letters stating all vehicles to be wheelchair accessible by 1st January 2012,this was discussed by all bodies and it was agreed the council would monitor how things developed over the coming years. To appease people like Thorson who were demanding the town be opened up they decicded to allow more licences but they must be wheelchair only this allowed people the chance to operate their own vehicles and also allowed the traditonal hacks to operate saloons as had always been the norm. Well this where it get's messy, guy's come in to the trade with the WAV, Thorson included then low and behold he suddenly wants what he calls a level playing field all Taxi's to be WAV. Now you maybe thinking I have something against Mr Thorson but nothing could be further from the truth, many years ago he operated a PH and yes he then formed a new association, Dundee PH Association he decided to try and convert all PH into Hackney Licences, at the time there were 72 PH in Dundee he was wanting the council to disregard the waiting list to accomadate his crowd, this did not happen the council opened up the city. Eric operated his hack for many years then handed back his licence, his choice, after a number of years away from the trade he comes back with his WAV nothing wrong with that but where it all goes wrong is he then decides if he can't get a saloon licence then everybody has to be WAV. Come on Thorson stop using 203020 as a decoy you cannot hide everyone will know after Friday 14th December who is responsible .......YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
