03 Feb 2008 Taxi Driver Set On Fire A Taxi driver was set on fire by a thief who sprayed him in the face with an inflammable liquid in an attempt to snatch cash takings, police have said Cabbie Douglas Hall rapidly put out the flames after the assault by one of two men who had apparently lured the taxi to the area. The assault took place after 10pm last night in Pill Road, Milford Haven, after the taxi had been called to a road nearby. "On arrival at this location, Mr Hall states that a male approached the car and demanded he hand over his bag of takings," said a police spokesman. "Mr Hall refused and got out of the vehicle (a green Ford Mondeo) and pushed the male backwards." He added: "Mr Hall then noticed another male wearing a grey 'hoody' on the other side of the road. "A liquid or gas-type substance was squirted onto Mr Hall's head and face, and was then set on fire. It was quickly put out by the victim." The two white males, aged between 20 and 30, then quickly made off in the direction of the Sir Charles Wetham pub. Mr Hall suffered minor burns to his head and face. Three men have since been arrested in connection with the incident, and are helping police with their investigations. Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to contact Milford Haven police station on 0845 3302000. Source: South Wales Evening Post |
