As someone who is about to become a Kirklees licensee, I am amazed they have been caught up in this scam, they are thourogh, but as for the drivers not knowing, well if the court believed that they could not have convicted them.

this is a little wider than Kirklees, and affects some more authorities, rumour has it the cover notes were not fakes as such, the genuine article just stolen.


but if someone offered you insurance for £500 instead of £2,000 well what would you think?

rumour has it that it came to light not in Kirklees but another authority when cover notes kept comming in but no insurance certificates.

Private hire cars in Edinburgh will be fitted with external plates in a rolling programme which will be completed by 2005.

Welcome to the real world Edinburgh City Council, and about time too. :shock:

Now trade leaders are worried that the problem, which only affects LTI's TX1 model, could escalate as more masts are erected throughout the city.

Now that's funny, in fact very funny. :D :D

25 drivers have been found to have fake insurance documents following spot-checks by Kirklees Council.

It is thought that the dodgy documents were bought for a few hundred pounds, as compared with genuine policies which can cost drivers up to £4,000.

Now that's not funny. The council to give them credit have found this lot out. I think in the future they should ring the insurance company every time they re-license. Trusting a cover-note is no-longer on.

I don't think anyone on TDO would be interested.

However for others I think it all depends on the likely-hood of being caught. Drivers will only chance their arms if they think they will get away with it.

In my area I can guarantee you that there are no dodgy certificates. Not because all the drivers are as honest as the day is long. But because they wont get away with it.
