March 30, 2008 Sunday Cops hunt hero cabbie The Bolton News A HERO cabbie who went to the aid of a sex attack victim is being urged to contact police. Detectives investigating an assault against a woman need to speak to the man as he could have information vital to their inquiry. Det Sgt Martin Bell, of Bolton CID, said: "The victim has told us how kind and helpful the taxi driver was, going beyond his normal call of duty and expressing his concern for her condition. "The driver and the company are unknown at this time, but it is very important that whoever this driver is, that he makes contact with us." The woman was assaulted in the early hours of Saturday, February 23. The incident is said to have happened at a house in Oxford Grove, from which the woman fled. The taxi, driven by an Asian man, was outside Allen's Fried Chicken in Chorley Old Road and was about to pull away when the victim flagged the driver down. He stopped and took the woman, who was aged in her 20s, back to her house in Atherton, ensuring that she was safely inside before he left. Det Sgt Bell said: "We have been working closely with the Taxi Drivers' Association and they would like to stress that this driver is not in any trouble and given the circumstances he has acted very honourably in ensuring this vulnerable woman was safely returned home. "He is a Good Samaritan and that is the way he will be treated."
