Bungling villain leaves clue behind - his passport

A bungling criminal faces police questioning after he fled a taxi without paying - but left his passport behind.

A taxi driver called police on Sunday at 3.25am to report two male passengers who he had picked up after a night out in Eastbourne.

The car was near to Heathy Brow, Peacehaven, when the pair ran out and escaped without paying for the £35 fare.

Sergeant Robin Fuller, of Peacehaven police, said one of the men left his passport on the rear seat in his haste to run away.

He said: "We obviously have a very good lead in identifying the offender in this matter and therefore hope to interview the very embarrassed person in the near future."

What a tit. A replacement passport would cost him more than the fare.

I hope they do prosecute this scumbag, but something for everyone to watch for:

A colleague of mine called the police after a runner, had good information, and after a long interview and statement, which took him off the road for most of the night, the police took on the case and eventually caught the individual.

The person got fined, the police cleared up a crime, the court coffers went up – so drinks all round for them all.

The only problem is that my mate got absolutely squat – still out of pocket for his £40.00.

When he queried this, he was told that the case was now closed!

Justice??????

Bit of a pi** poor show from the CPS.

Compensation (i.e. the fare) gets a priority over fines and court costs, so I guess the CPS simply forgot to ask for it. [-(
