Private hire firm stripped of licence

Keighley News

A Keighley private hire company has had its operating licence revoked.

Staff from Bradford Council's hackney carriages licensing department - accompanied by police - visited the Albert Yard, Church Street, premises of First Choice Private Hire yesterday morning.

Inspector Mark Allsop, from the Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said the decision to revoke the licence followed complaints from nearby businesses and members of the public.

He said the complaints concerned improperly parked taxis and breaches of planning and insurance regulations.

Taxi firm case adjourned

Court action to decide the future of Keighley taxi firm 1st Choice has been adjourned for the sixth time.

The case is now due to be heard by magistrates in May, following the latest adjournment on January 14.

1st Choice, based in Church Street and employing 30 drivers, is accused of flouting conditions of its operating licence.

Bradford Council claims the firm let people walk into its office to order taxis when it was allowed to take only phone bookings.

The council closed 1st Choice last April but allowed it to reopen several days later pending the outcome of the firm’s appeal.

The allegations are denied by 1st Choice.
