Firms being driven round the bend by soaring fuel prices quote.... Ron Hewitt, chief executive of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, said Scottish bus companies faced a singular challenge because of the Scottish Government's decision not to pass on a £7.5m fuel rebate awarded by the treasury. The Government has countered that it spends a "considerable" £260m on buses already, but the chamber has also accused the SNP in the council of short-changing cabbies. Mr Hewitt said: "We would like to see an emergency meeting of the transport committee to review taxi fares immediately because these guys are in dire straits." But councillor Colin Keir, convener of the regulatory committee, said while he was "sympathetic" to drivers' needs, a fare review was not due to take place until mid-2009. Edinburgh taxi driver Stephen Hay, 40, from East Calder, is paying between £250 and £300 more a month for his fuel than this time last year, which amounts to around £3000 of his annual wage. He said: "I'm having to work an extra hour and half a night to equal what I was taking last year. On a Friday night, I usually do a 12-hour shift. In May 2007 my fuel bill was about £22 but last Friday I spent £40." http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/latestnews/Firms-being-driven-round-the.4144409.jp Fuel cost and tram works set to scupper children's trip http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/latestnews/Fuel-cost-and-tram-works.4144459.jp |

As I said before the public have no sympathy for greed taxi drivers - especially now. |

Wednesday, 4th June 2008 http://edinburghnews.scotsman.com/edinburgh/City-set-for-taxi-fare.4148927.jp Well,it looks like the public are on our side.
You know, you just couldn't make this up. What makes anyone think the public all will welcome us with open arms. If that nutcase Muldoon, pushes this through the public will burn us at the stake. If anyone out there agrees with Jim the bampot Muldoon, then book yourself straight into the Andrew Duncan clinic. Nietzsche once said, "madness in the individual is the exception, in the group it's the rule". He must have been talking about the Edinburgh taxi trade.

Theres the man of the people taking £50k from a driver for a plate he got for free and then dragging him into further financial hardship by objecting to him covering his costs. No doubt the man of the people's popularity is at an all time high

Don't rise to the bait with these people, they are weirdos who obviously have many of the same mental deficiencies as some of our colleagues, infact some of them probably are our colleagues.
If these people are really so thick that they cannot understand the economics of the taxi trade then why bother engaging with them at all. I think everybody wants to undermine the taxi trade in Edinburgh now, it's probably the same all over the country. The price of the initial hire on tarrif one is about four fifths of the average price of a single sausage in an east of Scotland Chip shop, one stop on a bus is £1.10. Imagine that, four fifths of a single sausage to get in a vehicle with it's own driver, so let us look at what else £1.50 gets you in todays Britain. about 5 and a quarter cigarettes one third to half a pint of beer one third of one H4 headlight bulb About one 46th of a Taxi tyre About one 136th of a taxi test About one 450 hundred millionth of the tram cost About one 16th of a temporary insurance/name addition cover note About one 803rd of the cost of a Taxi licence The list is endless but the idea that people are unable to afford to use a taxi in Edinburgh is really farcical, if they cannot afford the taxis then they cannot afford anything else really and that isn't the fault of the taxi drivers anymore than it is the fault of the shops putting up prices. Oh did I mention about 25 minutes of my time last night was equal to £1.50, of course thats net profit not gross. The only people who are losing out here are the poor suckers behind the wheel of the taxis in Edinburgh, we are being and have been undermined by everyone and everything so don't ask for your umbrellas back because it's started raining. Can't say or do anything much at the moment, but it won't be long now.

http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM ... v51prAOhwg All we need now is Jim Muldoon, to come riding to the fray with his tariff rise. Do these committee types walkabout with their fecking eyes shut? The country, is going down the plughole. The public are [edited by admin] themselves. If you think it is bad now? You are in for a big surprise. Things are going to get much, much worse. There is no end in sight, and know one knows where this is going to end up. The best is yet to come. Message to all those looking to buy taxi plates: jump off a cliff. It's much quicker. As for the tariff rise monkeys, you can do the same.

So I take it your not confident of getting another free plate then? The doom and gloom merchant / man of the people wants to see the taxi trade down the plughole .................... because it is only when the quality of service offered around him is reduced to a minimum that he stands a chance of competing. No doubt the man of the people's popularity is at an all time high B. Lucky ![]() The truth is out there GA, it always has been. If you cant see it? Then you deserve it right up the choccy box.
Stu, is the exception to the rule, he will bend over for anyone, especially for Ali T. Ali, must be [edited by admin] himself laughing. Talk about bailing out at the right time. Stu, that must be the fastest 50k, you have ever spent?

No doubt the man of the people's popularity is at an all time high B. Lucky ![]() Sadly this sort of thing isn't unknown in Edinburgh GA, I'm sure it's a new National disease of some sort, Political Psychology or something, who knows. Not long now though.

B. Lucky ![]() That high stands on the low GA, it is a matter of perception. Those on the high are falling faster than a sack of rocks, some just can't see it, yet? It's not just the taxi trade that's going down the plughole, have a look around? Everyone out there that thinks they are Charlie Tatties, are in serious trouble. This is what happens when you buy into an illusion. You get no more than you deserve. Competing, is all about being in the right position at the right time. When I was a lot younger, I once got a kicking from a guy a lot older and more experienced than myself. My friend pointed out that he was on his way down. He was right. I caught up with him a little later. Revenge, is a dish best served cold .... |

Everythings gone to plan so far Skull, can't say to much about anything at the moment though but you are doing okay on your own though.
Please keep it coming bud, especially the bits with "we" which is of course the plural of "I"?
Keep it coming, a few matters have come to light over the last couple of weeks that need to be looked into along with all the other aspects that need to be looked into and there's loads.

I stuck a post on the fasties about the Perfect Storm, an article in the Independent newspaper. I think it was back in November 2007. They chose to ignore it. I even pointed out, what would happen to the licence plates, in the event of a recession about two to three years back. All this was predicted, it had to happen. Sooner or later, everyone out there, buying into this madness was going to get Rogered. What the feck don't you understand? Its been a long time coming, but nothing more than expected. I just love this part - I told you so.
Now wake up and smell the coffee .....

Oh and before I forget, good luck with your plate. BTW Stu, you are a [edited by admin] in a pricks clothing. 50 K. you must be off your fecking head, but that goes without saying.
