A little more on the incident, but it would appear to be a little early to see if this is another sad death to add to the on going taxi/PH pile.

Cabbie dies in fight over fare AN ARGUMENT over a fare is believed to have led to the death of a Liverpool taxi driver. Douglas Bridson, 57, was involved in an altercation outside Trinity Methodist church on West Derby Road, Tuebrook, in the early hours of Saturday. The Botanic Cars private hire taxi had picked up a fare and was driving away from the city centre at around 12.30am when the disagreement came to a head. Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened, but it is believed the passenger demanded to be let out of Mr Bridson’s taxi at the junction with Clifton Road, yards from Tuebrook police station. The two men are thought to have argued before Mr Bridson, from the Anfield area, was attacked. Police were called to the scene and found the victim injured lying on the pavement. Paramedics worked on Mr Bridson at the scene and he was taken to the Royal Liverpool University hospital by ambulance. Doctors fought in vai to save him but he died in the early hours of the morning. A murder inquiry was then launched by police. A Home Office pathologist carried out a post-mortem on Saturday afternoon and revealed that Mr Bridson died from a heart attack. Police arrested a 67-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of assault and he was taken to St Anne Street police station for questioning. After being quizzed at length by detectives, he was released on police bail yesterday morning pending further inquiries. A file has been prepared by officers and has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service and the coroner, who will consider whether any charges will follow. The family of Mr Bridson has been informed by police, and are said to be being comforted by relatives. Forensic teams examined the area on Saturday and laid a tarpaulin across the crime scene. Surrounding roads were temporarily closed during investigations but were later reopened. Police say they believe there could be numerous witnesses to the attack and are calling for themcalling on anyone who was in the area or passing through it at the time to come forward. Call police St Anne Street CID on 0151-777 4065 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. |
