News item on BBC Radio Manchester Monday 23rd June 2008, Congestion charge would be exempt for Hackney Carriage but NOT private hire. Why when all licensing, CRB,Medical checks are all the same.

Disabled would be exempt, why do they NEED to travel at the peak time, if they do and are working, they should pay like everyone else.

The spokesman also admitted that there are no plans to ease congestion on the M60, that is not part of the "zone" or any plans concerned with it.

But JD they knew the risks of going into business .............. and probably bought the shop as a going concern from someone who hadn't paid anything for it.

They've had their day ............ they've made their money so stuff them.

The only reason you pity them is that you don't want what they've got.

Like everything else the people that work hard for what they have will get trampled by people who think they know better.

Maybe JD will write a book about it.

Is there any other cities apart from london and now manchester which has congestion charge? i also think that liverpool will be not long away from a congestion charge as well as they are already altering the roads around the centre to try to stop cars from going into the city centre!!

Wouldn't be so bad if you had a choice about whether to be Hack or PHV but in Manchester you would pay around £55k for a Hack plate. If you are a busy PHV it might be a long term investment to avoid the charge.

I should imagine that anyone driving a Hackney vehicle in a city would be fully supportive of a road charge.... especially if it helped to keep the private hire out of the city's... or at least make them charge a reasonable fare..
