Nothing changes in the trade. for yonks the trade has been waiting for a compeditor of the TX. When it comes the trade cheers. But as said there are problems already even before the first one picks up its first punter. Mind you I don't care. I am not bothered anymore. Why? Because after 46 years, I have had enough. The jobs are crap, you can't stop to even have a pee without a ticket landing on the door mat. The maintanence costs that the garages charge are also an extraction of the urine.
I retired when the plate ran out on May 5th on my Metro. I sold it on ebay for £400 to a couple of guys that wanted a cab for the 'Dumball Rally' They and others that bought an assortment of vehicles costing no more than the allowed £400. Left the UK and went on a tour to Corfu. Last I heard my Metro had lost its gears and was left someplace on the way. Good riddance. The trade is dying. This is what the 'old boys' would tell us 'but-a-boys' 46 years ago. and I am saying it now. I have seen many changes in those years none for the better of the trade. So I say Be lucky (you will need it) and may your god go with you.

Michael Glassman (Colts) still has a sizeable fleet for day rentals down in Three Colts Lane.

I worked days today, and it was non-stop from 12 - 9. Not as much cash as nights, but it suited me today. The trade may well quiten down, but like Mr Sussex I think the work will be more constant than the early 1990's.

That Cab blokes been on the golf course too much.

Bored? Like other retired people say. "The days are not long enough to do what you want to do" Me I have taken up my old hobby of building and flying model aircraft. How this has changed in the years. I can now pick the days when I want to go out when the weather suits.
As for renting a cab on the days the I 'might' want to work. I have had offers from local drivers. But it is not a question of needing a few bob, as I have a new career change. That suits me.
