Cab Driver Stabbed and Robbed

15th July 2008

Police appeal for two young women who shared part of taxi journey with attackers to come forward.

A cab driver was stabbed in the thigh and punched in the face by two young men in an early-morning attack in Houghton Regis.

They escaped with up to £50 in takings, leaving the victim, in his 30s, in need of medical attention.

He was taken to Luton & Dunstable Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

Now detectives are appealing for two women, who had shared the cab with the young men for part of the journey, to come forward.

The attack happened shortly after 3.30am at Manning Court, Parkside Drive, on Friday, July 11.

Police said the driver had picked up his attackers in Skimpot Road, Dunstable.

After he stopped at Manning Court to drop them off, they opened his door, demanded cash and attacked him before disappearing with the takings.

Det Sgt Jay Bains said two women had shared the cab with them from Skimpot Road to Windsor Drive, Houghton Regis.

He said: 'We would urge the women who were in his vehicle to have the courage to contact us.

'They did not see the assault, but could have vital information that will help.

'We would also urge anyone who saw the incident, or knows who was involved, to contact us. '

Both the attackers were white. One was about 19, and was 6ft tall. The other was about 15, 5ft 4ins tall, skinny, and wore a white cap with a black logo, a black shirt and black trousers.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Sgt Bains, in confidence, on 01582 473325, or the main switchboard on 01234 841212. Or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
