On July 4th the local Coventry rag ran this story. I suppose we will get to know in the next few days just how many jobs have been lost. ________________________ Black-cab-maker LTI Vehicles in Holyhead Road, said it will need to make cuts and has earmarked 40 jobs to go - 21 in production and 19 staff. Workers at LTI will find out their fate on July 14 when the consultation period with unions ends. THE manufacturer of the iconic black cab in Coventry celebrated its 60th anniversary last month. The company employs about 250 people at its Holyhead Road base and a further 150 at dealerships across the UK. Managing director Peter Shillock, said: "The economic conditions LTI faces today are very challenging. "The credit crunch and resulting loss of confidence in the economy are having an adverse impact on our sales particularly in London. "There is no evidence to suggest that economic conditions will improve in the midterm, therefore we need to take steps to protect LTI's financial position and ensure the company prospers in the future. "We regret the need to consider any action of this kind but we have to take effective steps to safeguard the future of the company as a whole. We hope by undertaking this process now the company will be in better shape to improve its performance when the economy recovers." _________________________ |

The big question is< if they go under in the Uk will the PCO wake up and drop the manditory turning circle or will they still insist on it. I cannot see owners buying any once they are made in China, it would be to big a gamble If LTI had listened to, and looked after the owners they would not be in all this sheit |

Lads losing their jobs is not a good thing, but neither is their product, in terms of initial and on-going costs.
