Taxi man loses licence
A Hackney carriage driver has had his licence revoked by Berwick Borough Council for operating illegally.

The driver, working in Newcastle, picked up a fare off the street rather than by pre-booked arrangement.

It came to light during an operation by Newcastle City Council, which secured a judicial review of the borough council issuing licences used in the city.

I think this shows that both Berwick and Newcastle Councils are not content with the situation.

The two problems are, and always have been, that Berwick do not opertate restrictions in numbers and charge a fee reflective of the cost of operating the Licensing function.

Apparently there was no hesitation by Berwick when the full facts were known ........................ although I must say that Newcastle PH & HC drivers caught flimping in Gateshead a few years ago are still licensed by Newcastle.

Makes you wonder what higher standards are all about.

So what your saying is GA, is if Newcastle lifted the plate restrictions and charged a sensible rate for the licence they would not have this problem.
So what are you doing about it, lobby your council to lift the restrictions and get the price of a licence lowered
