Taxi driver guilty of girl's rape

A taxi driver who picked up 14-year-old girl walking home alone has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault. David Roberts, 43, spotted the teenager after she had become separated from friends on a night out in Caernarfon.

He said he would take her home even though she had no money, but he stopped in an industrial park and forced her to perform a sexual act. Roberts of Caernarfon had denied both charges at Mold Crown Court. He will be sentenced next month.

The court heard the defendant stopped to tell the girl it was too dangerous for her to be out alone in the early hours and said he would take her home. She told him she did not have any money but he said he would take her anyway.

Mark Connor, prosecuting, said during the journey the defendant started to touch the girl sexually and then stopped in an industrial area and forced her to carry out a sexual act.

The court heard the girl, described as being terrified, then left the car and walked for miles, not knowing where she was. Judge Merfyn Hughes QC said Roberts had been convicted on "overwhelming" evidence. He said: "You took advantage of her. She was vulnerable and you were in a position of trust as a taxi driver."

Roberts was bailed pending sentence next month but was warned he faced a significant prison sentence. He was ordered to sign on the police sex register. He must continue to live at his home, and that he does not work as a taxi driver.

Cut the bas*ards balls off :evil: and lock him up for life. :evil:

If one of these scumbags ever went near one of my kids, I would go after the Judge that released the bas*ard - that's a promise.


I think its about time a Judge is forced to pay a heavy price for letting someone like that back on the street. They would soon make sure it never happen again . . . .
