Taxi Driver is Charged with Brutal Attack

8th August 2008

A Taxi driver has been charged with stamping on the head of one of his passengers.

Thomas Lough, 53, from Rutherglen, allegedly kicked and stamped on a customer after he drove him to Clydebank in his Hackney cab.

The victim is said to have suffered serious head injuries and was knocked unconscious during the assault.

Officials have immediately suspended the accused's taxi licence pending the outcome of the case.

Chief Inspector Stuart Neill, of Strathclyde Police's licensing division, said: "It is alleged that while working Mr Lough attacked a male passenger.

"The Chief Constable applied for an immediate suspension of his licence."

The city's council's licensing and regulatory committee heard the alleged assault took place on June 12 in Duntocher.

Mr Lough is due to appear at Dumbarton Sheriff Court next month in connection with the incident.

His licence was withdrawn after police notified the council of the charges on July 4.

Meanwhile, a crime boss, jailed for money laundering, plans to cut his ties with a South Side taxi firm.

The Evening Times told how police had made moves to shut down United Cars because it was linked to Peter Smith, 39.

The taxi boss was jailed for three years in May after being caught with almost £400,000 in "dirty cash".

Officials were told yesterday that Smith has asked for his name to be withdrawn from two licence renewal applications for the Castlemilk-based company.

Chief Inspector Neill said: "In the Chief Constable's opinion, Mr Smith is not a fit and proper person and the United Cars application should be turned down."

Well feck me, there's a shock: "In the Chief Constable's opinion" if he's anything like to [edited by admin] from Lothian and Borders, it's a given.

Unless, you're one of his own: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... 514116.ece

So this guy is guilty until proven otherwise??

So if he's now found innocent who pays his loss of earnings?

Edinburgh Council suspended a driver for the term of his licence on the strength he had a pending court case - a breach of the peace no less. The case collapsed. When he appealed the RC's decision the Sheriff was only interested in whether or not the council had followed the correct procedure. There was no consideration given to why the licence was suspended in the first place only that it was within the power of the RC to do so.

The council only have to consider each case on it's merits.

It matters not a jot.

This story is a brammer!!!

No mention of why the cabby stiffed the plink.

Now let's see. You get up in the afternoon. Yo have a late breakfast. You whistle while shaving. You shower, daub yourself with the smellies to make sure you can live with yourself throughout your shift.

You get into your taxi, grimacing at the rental you have to make before you've even earned a bolt.

Never mind, you set off, listening to the inane drivel on the radio, forced on you because you need the traffic news to avoid delays.

A punter gets in your taxi, you drive off. At some point on the journey you stop, you get out of your taxi, drag the scrote by the scruff of the neck, haul him out of the taxi and proceed to give the blighter a stiff hiding.

Now, don't you think a good Chief Inspector of Constabulary might just be interested in why you took this course of action?

And, what kind of society do we live in when we allow fascist policemen to take away the livelihood of someone who hasn't been convicted of any offence?

And these police bozos expect any kind of assistance from the taxi trade when they behave like this?

They're having a laugh, surely.
