Taxi trade finally on the TfL Board

Mayor Boris Johnson, has finally appointed taxi and private hire representatives to the Transport for London board.

It brings to an end years of marginalisation on the most important transport team in the city. Black taxis have kept London moving for years and were effectively sidelined in the decision making process from everything to traffic lights to bus lanes.

Two appointments

There is one board member for each trade. Here us the full list of the black cab and private hire appointments:

Bob Oddy

Bob Oddy has been a licensed taxi driver since 1966. He is currently General Secretary of the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association – which has a membership of over 8,000. He has been actively involved in many issues affecting the taxi industry. He is Director of LTDA Enterprises Ltd and a non-executive Director of Computer Cab Company Ltd.

Steve Wright

After an early career with London Underground Steve Wright became involved in the Private Hire Trade and successfully ran a Private Hire Company for over 25 years. Steve is currently chair of the Licensed Private Hire Car Association. This organisation comprises of 150 companies representing 15,000 drivers, with a further 1,000 companies registered. In 1999 Steve was awarded an MBE for services to transport in London.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said:

"I am thrilled that we have been able to assemble a board of quite staggering expertise. Each and every member of the board is chock full of the ideas, enthusiasm and energy that will propel the improvements we intend to make to the capital’s public transport system."

OH Goody,
First questions for Mr Wright.
1 Will you now get rid of the touts, and instruct your members not to pick up illegally
2 will you now get rid of the fictitious PH cars that the chance-rs use to flout the congestion charge
Its easy to check them as well they should have hire and reward insurance for there 2+2 sports cars

In all fairness I think Mr Wright's views on tout is on a par with the most anti PH London cabby.

It did cross my mind that either him or his sidekick may have wangled themselves in with the 'tory vermin' administration.

Mind you that would have been a result in a way as he could'nt negotiate his way out of his dreadful comments he would be sure to make.

Thank fook it's Steve Wright, at least he speaks sense.

Nice to see the Taxi seat going to an LTDA man.

They really do now speak for the whole trade.

I can hear the howls from the Royal Oak as I passed tonight! :D

Kids? Whose kids? :?

The next time I'll visit the Royal Oak site will be when it's been knocked down and re-developed.

Everyone has their price, and the lad that own's the Cafe has his.

I wasn't talking about your previous cab.
I was talking about the white flag you wave to the touts at night sitting in your cab with the big yellow streak done the back bone.

You have Children? you mean they let people like you breed?

So thats where you get your collection of unautherised smilies from, your eight year old. Looks like a bright kid, should be able to teach you a thing or two, like civility.

Your quite correct about me sitting in my Taxi, unlike you sitting on your big fat arse in the Royal Oak expanding your even fatter gut whilst excersising your jawbone telling everyone how bad it is out there. As I've said a hundred times, you're the trades past, hop off to Spain and retire.

So we're back to kids again? Oh dear.

I managed to catch a quick look at your last post before you had a chance to re edit the post.

It was not the road to go down. In fact I was shocked and appalled that you could even think of publishing that type of comment.

Still I have decided to refrain from answering any of your posts or remarks on this forum as I do not whish to be associated with a driver the likes of you and I do believe the other drivers should not be subjected to this type of rubbish.

Do not concider this a victory, as I'm sure we will meet soon.

Ladies, Ladies please.

If you two are typical of the level of unity amongst hack drivers in London, is it any wonder the touts are having a field day.

You need to put your personal animosity aside, for the good of your trade.

I do apologise
But this cabby has attacked my webb log with obscenities, been banned from other forums for abuse and this time he went to far.
All because I do not agree with his views on the LTDA which he belongs to.
Again I apologise it has been unnecessary for the rest of the drivers.
