Robber wrapped cord round taxi driver's neck

A taxi driver had a piece of washing line cord wrapped around his neck during a robbery in Northampton. The incident happened in Semilong Road at about 2.25am this morning.

The taxi driver had picked up a man and a woman from Arthur Street, a police spokesman said. "The offenders asked the 40-year-old male driver to take them to Semilong Road but when the driver stopped his red Peugeot the man in the front of the taxi wrapped a piece of washing line cord round the victim's neck.

"The woman then stole a small amount of cash from the driver, who was not seriously hurt."

The male offender is described as white, of medium build and wore a black hat. The female was white, of slim build, unkempt ginger hair and wore a baseball cap.
