Taxi Drivers In Court
2nd September 2008
Two cab drivers have been prosecuted after being caught breaking the terms of their licences in St Albans.
Masud Ayub of St Michael’s Crescent Luton, and Mohammed Haseeb of Summerfield Road, Luton, both private hire drivers, were each given conditional discharges for six months and ordered to pay costs of £100, for collecting passengers without prior bookings.
Paul Holden, senior district council licensing officer, said: ”Private hire drivers are responsible for checking that the jobs they undertake are properly booked with the company taking bookings on their behalf. This is an important point of public safety because these drivers are not insured for journeys that are not booked. In the future we will consider prosecuting such drivers for driving without insurance.”
