Dear Councillor
Edinburgh councillors responsible for rape!!!!
On Sunday 17th August, 2008, in the wee small hours, a woman was raped in Edinburgh. Be in no doubt, you are all collectively responsible for her being raped.
City of Edinburgh Council has a policy of restricting the number of operating taxis. You councillors voted for this.
Despite the Scottish Government's Best Practice guidelines saying that councils should take account of peak periods in determining the level of taxi provision, Edinburgh's council deliberately, note deliberately, ignored this, to protect a vested interest.
Because of the taxi restriction policy YOU support, it remains difficult for members of the public to hail a taxi to take them home at peak periods.
This leads them to take risks, all because they just want to get home.
This girl took a risk because of YOUR policy. She was raped. YOU are responsible.
It's time to put aside the vested interests like Cllr Cardownie's competitor private hire interests. And Cllr Keir's promotion of his bus employer's interests. It's time to stop fiddling the figures to maintain a dangerous restriction.
There has been no increase in the taxi fleet for over 6 years.
Common sense and public safety demands that you End the restriction NOW. Before any other woman is raped because of your actions.
The Scottish Consumer Council supports this. The OFT advocates this. Those who risk being raped need this NOW!!!!
I do hope you send this letter to every Edinburgh councillor, recorded delivery in every case, with your name & address clearly on the letter, & don't forget to sign it, with your usual signature.
And whilst you are in the letter writing mood, send a copy of your letter of protest to every newspaper within a 50 mile radius of Edinburgh.
That should make you reasonably famous, sorry wrong word, strike famous, insert notorious, in the Edinburgh area at least!!!
