Following my previous thread;
Will Mob Rule Prevail In Halifax This Weekend?

We now have;

Controversial Taxi Rules Are Back On Councillors' Agenda

3rd September 2008

Councillors are to further discuss controversial rules on taxi windows.

Private-hire vehicles are not allowed to have heavily tinted glass – a minimum of 70 per cent of light must get through.

Calderdale Council says the ban protects the safety of passengers and drivers, because passers-by can see into the car.

But drivers say they find it increasingly difficult to buy vehicles that don't have tinted windows. They then have to pay to have them changed.

The issue was part of a list of complaints over which they held two weekend strikes in Halifax town centre.

In previous meetings, the council's licensing and regulatory committee voted to keep the ban. But it will be discussed at another meeting on Monday.

Kirklees Council has a similar policy, although exemptions are allowed. Leeds also bans the tints, as does Manchester, Sheffield, Bolton and Wakefield.

The committee will also discuss tinted windows on private hire vehicles that are for executive use. Members will also consider a more flexible approach to renewing lapsed licences, age requirements for vehicles and four-monthly MoT testing.

What rubbish. :sad:

How many cars out there do you see that needs changing to get licensed?

I would say less than 1 in a 100.

IMO the only drivers that needs fully tinted windows are those with something to hide. :sad:

The whole Halifax Affair is one big load of bo77ocks, with 'taxi' mobs trying to overturn, by & large meaningful decisions, by that council.

I do hope that the council stands firm against this tyranny!!
