Cabbie Stabbed By Passenger

17th September 2008

A taxi driver is recovering in hospital after being stabbed by a passenger in an unprovoked attack on the outskirts of Taunton.

The victim, who is in his 50s and has not been named, sustained serious but not life threatening injuries.

He was then bundled out of the cab by his attacker, who drove off leaving him at the side of the road.

Police later stopped the white Fiat vehicle near Bridgwater with a stinger device and arrested a teenager in connection with the incident shortly after 2am yesterday (Wednesday).

Officers raced to the junction of Kingston Road and Corkscrew Lane, in Taunton, after a caller from Ace Taxis reported one of the firm’s drivers had been attacked with a knife.

They found the driver, who is in his 50s, at the side of the road suffering from stab wounds to his leg, hand, arm and buttocks.

The victim was rushed by ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital, in Taunton, where surgeons operated on him.

Meanwhile, police discovered the taxi had subsequently been driven across the Quantock Hills near Enmore.

A police spokesman said: “The taxi was found to have been stolen and immediate police enquiries led officers to Durleigh, near Bridgwater.

“The Fiat taxi was located and a stinger used by police to stop it.

“The driver of the stolen vehicle, aged 18, was arrested and taken to Bridgwater Police Station, where he currently remains on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.”

Unfortunately this attacker, who should be charged with attempted murder, will probably get of very lightly.

Every time I watch police action type programs on the telly I am amazed at the light sentences handed out by the judiciary.
Last night I watch a young man who had stolen a car, chased around driving highly dangerously for half an hour chased by half the police force and a helicopter. Finally smashed into another vehicle and had to be chased across fields, finally caught in some ones garden by a dog handler.
At the end of the program it said he was jailed for a day, given a two hundred pound fine and banned for a year.
Is it any wonder they do this.

Here's another one we will waste tax payers money on when we send him on a outwardbounds trip to teach him the error of his ways. As mentioned in another post I personally would just shoot him and be done with it
