Taxi bosses fear a bogus driver who raped a passenger is still targetting lone women.

Police are investigating claims the driver is prowling the streets of Edinburgh in a fake cab after another passenger complained she had been subjected to "lewd" behaviour during a journey.

Taxi chief Raymond Mathison, of Chauffeur Private Hire, alerted police after the woman called him to complain in the belief the driver was employed by him.

He revealed: "She said he was being lewd and suggestive. She was feeling frightened and wondering if he'd come back."

Detectives are still hunting the man who drove his victim to Brunstane Road South before raping her last month. The suspect was described as black and around 30 years old.

Police confirmed they were treating the latest incident seriously.

A spokeswoman said: "We are currently pursuing a number of lines of inquiry."
