I have heard of them B4, and frankly find them a tacky idea,
our customers are not paying for a taxi to be compulsory fed advertising they have no control over.

surely its against the human rights act?

Well you better cover up the windows of your cab then and dont let the customer see out of them as they will see advertising all over the place... :D

On a more serious note, it will not be long before advertising will be part of your data dispatch system and as a car is moving along with since the unit knows its position due to GPS, adverts for nerby shops, clubs, hotels etc could easily be displayed.

But, I would say that if such a system was fitted then the customer should be advised that they can have it turned off for the duration of their journey.

As for being tacky, well I have been on buses that have similar ideas and they work well, sometimes its better to watch the adds than talk to a whinging driver.......... not that you find many of them........

If advertising is so bad then why do your 'pillars of society' the high and mighty London Cab trade, have it all over their vehicles?

I dont believe this debate or where its going"!

we are not talking matey, of advertising spray on tan outside the vehicle but someone inside with a screan in your face compelled to watch a video.

quite frankly the stupidity, of it all, is breathtaking and no I wouldnt dream of doing it!

After an evening out,I do not want to sit in the back of a cab,or in the case of the Eurobus,(the floor) and watch/listen to adverts.
This is a tacky idea and the idiots who are spending money on the screens, will be lucky to recuperate their outlay.
As an advertiser,I would not advertise on this as one of the posters said,
you could switch it off.
So where is the benefit to the advertiser?.
Now if the Simpsons were on,well,!

No sorry no no with me,but some taxi operators, will find this could help with the costs, but I am dubious.

STEVE FROM DUNDEE TAXI VISION, I HAVE READ SOME OF THE QUOTES AND WILL TELL YOU A BIT ABOUT THE SCHEME. THERE ARE 12 TAXIS WHICH BY NEXT WEEK GO UP TO 30. EACH TAXI DRIVER WILL MAKE ROUGHLY 60 TO 70 POUNDS AWEEK FOR PLAYING THE DVD. BUT IF ASKED BY A CUSTOMER TO TURN OFF THEY WOULD DO SO.THERE IS NO NOISE ATTACHED THEY ARE ALL QUIET ADS.EVERY AD WILL BE FOR 15 SECS AND EVERY TAXI DRIVER WILL HAVE A PORTFOLLIO WITH CARDS TO BACK THE ADS UP. WE ARE JUST TRYING TO PROMOTE OUR CITY BY USING LOCAL COMPANIES

Wasn't/isn't this being tried in Edinburgh? And from what I hear isn't hasn't exactly set the world on fire.

But for £3,500 a year, I think I could put up with it.

There has been a company operating a service here for several months now where cars at Glasgow airport have small screens playing adverts on the back of the front seat headrests

Its the only advert source taxis have here because no adverts are permitted on the outside of the vehicles
