That would be very popular down here.

They'll keep socialism - but just for those rich folks - like Chomsky states - socialism for the rich.

Of course the Tories down here will be delighted.

Not have to worry about the 40+ Labour MPs sent down from up there.

Can't be the policy differences they object to. There's not a socialist among them.

Perhaps they are hogging all the best expense claims

It's all very well both sides of the argument trying to scare each other but the only way you'll ever know is in hindsight Personally i think that Scotlands more generous Welfare system will be severely tested once they have to fund their own armed forces,Embassies,Transport Infrastructure etc. wholly from Scottish generated tax revenues but the only way to find out is to try it

Unfortunately, that statement is based on unionist spin.
Scotland has 8.9% of the UK's population and yes it does receive more than it's population share of expenditure at around 9.3%.
What isn't publicised as well is the fact that 9.6% of UK revenues come from Scotland.

Also, we have no need for nearly 300 embassies around the world, even though 8.9% of each belongs to us, as does 8.9% of everything else we've been paying for for the last 300 years. Armies, Navies, Air Forces......

We also have no need to spend an obscene sum on nuclear weapons.

If the oil revenues were left out how much of a dent in that 9.6% would it make because the oil has a limited lifespan and how much of that gap could be filled by the timber and wood products industry plus expansion of whiskey sales ?

Why should we leave them out? They exist and will do so for many years to come. There is at least as much oil left as has already been extracted.

And if you think Scotland is just Oil, Whisky (not Whiskey) and forestry, you really have been reading the wrong papers.

They'll get 8.9% of the UK embassy's in each country - it's a little like renting out your back bedroom. :D
