I think you could call it abuse, but I was a rebel from an early age. I consider myself as one of the lucky ones. I didn't believe in their shi* and I couldn't accept the program. It was hell though, it's like being held prisoner by your own mind. It actually makes me feel breathless thinking about it. :-|

Like you, I rejected religion at an early age. No real conflicts though, I just let the bullsh*t go in one ear and out the other.

You've got to admit though, if it's brainwashing, it's not very effective. All those closed churches and empty pews are testament to that.

Try telling that to the Muslims that cut that soldiers head off. I think Islam takes brainwashing to a whole new level. :-| I'm not sure I could have survived that as a kid. :-|

You have a point, though it's not just Islam. If it were politics rather than religion, they'd call it indoctrination.
I think there's a good case to restrict religion to the over 18's. Then they can make up their own mind what they want to believe.

Political and philosophical ideals are entirely different to believing in a supernatural being and killing people in its name.

I agree with your point of restricting access to religion, but I wouldn't make it an age issue. I would just prevent it from being taught in schools. Although I would like to see all religions subjected to scientific scrutiny as part of the educational curriculum. :-|

Can you imagine any of these religious types allowing their children to subject their religion to scientific inquiry?

Or their children reading the God Delusion as part of their study material?

It's strange how many Muslim families in my area choose to sent their children to Roman Catholic schools, in preference to non-denominational schools.

Provided there is not a better alternative for them, of course.

I'd say anyone putting images of the prophet on TDO obviously doesn't like TDO very much - please remove the image.

It's a cartoon, and that's the whole point. Why should a cartoon be a problem to anyone? #-o Don't tell me you of all people CC, are being sucked into this nonsense. #-o

What about the Catholic cartoon of the pedophile priests?

So Islam is to be give a privileged position here in the UK, so we are, in fact, living in an Islamic state? #-o #-o #-o #-o

I think Sunday School should be the place to teach religion, having said that the history surrounding religion should surely be included in the curriculum at schools. I don't believe there should be faith schools because it seems to me one way of segregating children and pointing out the difference. They say ignorance is bliss and I think this is one of the occasions that that particular statement is true, when we don't know the religious beliefs of a person we are less likely to judge them based on that belief and more likely to befriend them before we decide if we like them and want them part of our life.

Not at all - I just don't want to see people who post images such as the ones you've posted - or the nice folks that are responsible for TDO - murdered.

Well said Toots, agree completely, the trouble is many people tend to judge on appearances without really knowing the person at all.
