Wonder what religion the pilot of the airplane was who killed 47 wedding guests in 2008 - of course he didn't do it on behalf of a religion - he did it because he was following orders - so I suppose that's so much better - except for the wedding guests obviously.

Religious-based orders come down from the man the sky - the end. This is pretty poor stuff CC. #-o

Yeah your right its truly awful - 1 soldier gets murdered in London and you want an entire religion that's been in the country for centuries victimised.

So what? :?

Quote:
I still hold the view atheists are just as likely - if not more likely to kill than those of a religious persuasion.

That’s a ridiculous claim and with no evidence to support it. I could make the same claim of people with similar hair dews. It’s just nonsense.

Quote:
In actual fact to murder people for a view or a reason of some sort may well be better than murdering someone for no reason at all - personally - I don't think we should murder anyone - its certainly of little consequence to the person who's been murdered.

You’ve lost me, and yourself by the looks of it. Murder, in the mind of the individual committing the act, always has some sort of reasoning behind it. It is left to the observer to determine his motives.

Quote:
In the last 9 pages we have learned a few things - firstly your not a tolerant person and your beliefs appear to revolve around yourself.

I’m tolerating the absolute tosh you’ve been spouting in your recent comments, so I must have some redeeming (pardon the pun) features.

I don’t have specific belief's CC, at least, not ones that couldn’t be changed, in an instant, depending upon the evidence. I leave the belief in fairies at the bottom of the garden or omnipotent beings in the sky to those with a less inquiring mind. :-|

So Adolf the atheist killed millions, like Stalin the atheist, like Mau the atheist......there seems to be a pattern emerging.

In fact CC, Adolf Hitler claimed to be a Roman Catholic. (Winston Churchill was Roman Catholic as well as it happens, which is part of the reason he is not in Westminster Abbey or St Pauls.) Joe Stalin started to train for the Russian Orthodox priesthood. As to Mau - I haven't a clue.

Whether it was lip service or a proper Religious Conviction or whether they were closet Atheists is certainly up for debate.

Skull you beat me in the reply, but I can't be bothered to change it.

People make assumptions that because a person is christened into a particular religion that they still follow it as an adult or indeed as a teenager. If I remember right it was Hitlers mother that was Catholic but Hitler didn't care much for the religion and just gave it lip service for whatever reason. As for Stalin I have no idea, but, either way neither of them killed in the name of any religion they just killed people because they can. Hitler killed Jews and Stalin killed anybody regardless.

I think it is prudent not to assume that just because a person does kill in the name of a religion that they wouldn't if there wasn't a religion to blame for their actions.

No, I don't think I said anything of the sort but if that's what you want to believe, and it makes you happy... #-o

I can't be that far wrong, if you only think it. So what is your religious poison of choice and what exactly do you believe, Toots?

I said 'I think' not because I was doubtful, but, because that is what I did, I thought Skull has me pegged wrong. I believe it is each to their own choice, it's not my place to tell them if they are wrong or right. I have made my choice and I'm happy with it. I do however believe it is wrong to murder anybody and murderers should be dealt with regardless as to why they committed such a crime. You however want special punishment depending on who and why they were murdered, personally I think they should just be put to sleep and let that be the end of it

Come on Toots, you are dodging the question are you a believer or not and what exactly do you believe?

Now don't be shy...

I'm not dodging the question at all, I'm not going to answer it end of. I really don't understand your need to know :?

Not even if they claim to be killing people because it's written down in their book (the word of God) and their God told them to do it, because that's what it takes to be a good Muslim? Oh and if you blow yourself up into the bargain, there are a few virgins waiting for you in the afterlife? Oh and they are doing it on mass and all in the name of the same book?

Toots, it's called brainwashing.:-|

Could you by any chance point me to the specific text in the Koran that promises there will be virgins waiting in the afterlife?

Apart from the list produced on a previous page where people who apparently were godless killed well over 100 million people.

Which is basically what I stated - yet you want to see an entire religious community uprooted for a murder of a soldier in London - I merely point to the hypocrisy of your position when the British Army and its allies kill scores of people each day.

I think the only person spouting tosh has been your good self - hardly anyone has agreed with the points you made.

How about an interpretation of the Koranic texts from the Academic perspective?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Q-jjipS ... 0850E5CCE9

My 40 virgins crack was a cheap shot, I think the claim is actually 72 virgins, but hey, whose counting?

Oh and Toots, the Koran as with the bible, it all comes down to interpretation, again watch the videos if you are that interested. :-|

If there is one I'd have to question why someone would actually want a virgin - give me a mucky non virgin any day =D>
