Well think about it, if the Shia and Sunni Muslims keep knocking lumps out of each other, is it such a bad thing? Do we really want a resolution to this conflict? Is it not better just to help them massacre each other in ever-increasing numbers, with no outright winner ever being established?

It's a crude balance of sorts... :-|

Not what I meant. You seemed to be talking about all war, not just inter-muslim conflict. :?

That's exactly my point, I think War, is a part of the human condition, as is, greed, power and control. I'm not sure whether man will ever evolve beyond the point of killing each other to bring about peace. There's been wars, as long as I can remember. In fact, it's one of the first things you are taught when you are a child. :?

It could be argued that war, is a necessary evil to maintain a crude balance on a planet inhabited by humans. :?

I'd like to see you enlighten us on that statement.

Well, if you accept war as part of the human condition, then it comes down to who controls the conflicts in their own best interests.

Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria who really cares? :?

Part of the human condition?

Sorry that's a crock.

I would like to think it is a crock, and I doubt if it lends itself to scientific study but how do you explain wars springing up all over the place and ongoing for decades, if not centuries?

Surely, if war isn't a part of the human condition, then we, as a species would have learned that lesson by now? It's not like we've fallen short on practice. :?

Is this the mad or bad argument raising it's ugly head as there seems to be a huge amount of both? :?

Or it could be the old nature or nurture argument.

I think we are simply animals locked into an arm's race of trying to find more ingenious ways to kill each other in the name of peace. And once we've invented a new weapon. We've just got to try it out on someone, American and British unmanned drone aircraft being a case in point. :-|

Boys and their toys eh... #-o
