This petition calls for Iain Duncan Smith, the current Work and Pensions Secretary, to prove his claim of being able to live on £7.57 a day, or £53 a week.

On Monday's Today Programme David Bennett, a market trader, said that after his housing benefit had been cut, he lives on £53 per week. The next interviewee was Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith, who was defending the changes. The interviewer then asked him if he could live on this amount. He replied: "If I had to, I would."

This petition calls on Iain Duncan Smith to live on this budget for at least one year. This would help realise the conservative party`s current mantra that "We are all in this together".

This would mean a 97% reduction in his current income, which is £1,581.02 a week or £225 a day after tax* [Source: The Telegraph]

f*cking waste of time

I mean where do these f*ckwits come up with these ideas? can someone tell me ......please? ffs

I tell you what.....will a labour MP do the same? They are the f*ckwits that got the country into the mess, so will they do the same?

Better still, will they donate their wages to the hungry in the UK, the starving in Iraq, and the maimed in Afghanistan......and leave a little around for the Palestinians too, bearing in mind they sh*fted each and every one in broadly equal amounts.

Perhaps the Mackem Milliband can donate his last years salary from Sunderland AFC to the plights before he goes.......because he was part of the neocon conspiracy.

Absolute cnuts politicians, absolute cnuts.

You know something I don't think it is bad for my heart, I think a spurt of aggression is what this country actually needs......we have been sh*fted from all political quarters since most of us have been born, we work hard in with the vision of it being easier for our kin and easier for our kids.......that's just a f*cking downright lie.

The stats are something like 1% own 95% of the worlds wealth......except for the small fact they wouldn't have jack if people did jack, those that are running the country, of all political persuasions, have as much in common of those we usually pick up as a martian has - in actual fact a martian wouldn't probably stand by and watch them starve......f*ck it, lets watch jezza

Call me cynical if you like but what kind of market trader is he if he has to rely on benefits. I'll tell what kind of market trader I think he is, one that doesn't declare all his income so that he can claim the said benefits. IMHO.

I wonder how many on here have £50 + a week to spare after paying all our bills?

The answer is quite clear, get a f***ing job.

The problem is that many people in this country have got very lazy over the last 20 years.

Many of them fed on benefits that exceed the amount people earn from working.

A prime example is the scum bag that burnt down his house (actually the taxpayer's house) and killed his 6 kids.

No doubt you're right and have the figures that back that statement up, but I think you're talking in general terms about a section of society who are very small.

I think what p*sses people off is the fact that those on benefits didn't actually get the country into the sh*t state that its in, they didn't gamble peoples money and lose it in bad quick investment schemes, they didn't fiddle their expenses.

What it looks like is that the poorest and most needy in our society are the ones being made to make the largest sacrifices, I mean, whats the latest one....they have to claim their benefits online? Perhaps they can switch on their laptops whilst their by the pool in their mansions - better still perhaps they'll ask their man servants to do it.

We are being told hard choices have to be made, yet it seems to poorest are being given no choice, they have to comply. As I said previously, the poor didn't get this country into the sh*t, the rich did, with pure greed.
