Nigel Farage's Scotland trip ends in chaos amid protests
Nigel Farage was forced to cancel half his itinerary on a trip to Scotland yesterday due to threats of 'violent' protests less than a month after a visit to Edinburgh was hijacked by hard-Left independence supporters.

The UK Independence Party leader was in the north campaigning for his candidate in the Aberdeen by-election but was forced to repeatedly change his plans on the advice of police.

In May Mr Farage had to be locked in a pub after being surrounded by a hostile crowd as he launched a by-election campaign for Ukip’s candidate Otto Inglis in the Donside by-election for the Scottish Parliament, which takes place tomorrow.

He had been left stranded in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, surrounded by about 50 nationalists and socialists calling him a racist, but demanding that he “go home to England”.

Ahead of his visit Mr Farage wrote an article for The Herald newspaper in which he described the protesters as a “feral, baying mob of subsidised students”.

Mr Farage was due yesterday to have tea with Aberdeen Council deputy leader Marie Boulton in the city town house, but the meeting was called off at the last minute after Police Scotland received reports of planned demonstrations via social media.

Earlier, the party was forced to change their press conference venue following a late cancellation by the Marriott Hotel, in Dyce, allegedly following threats by a group called the Aberdeen Anti-Fascist Alliance.

One man was arrested after spraying a drink at the back of a Ukip official following a debate with Mr Farage about sharia law.

After the chaotic day's campaigning in Aberdeen, Mr Farage said there is "something unpleasant going on" in Scotland, while Ukip president in Scotland Lord Christopher Monckton claimed there is a "problem with democracy" north of the border.

Discussing the protests, Mr Farage said: "I've never come across anything like it in all of my life anywhere in Britain, Europe or the world for that matter.

"The idea that you can disagree with someone's point of view but you have it out and debate these things and let the public judge is what the democratic process is all about.

"There is something quite unpleasant going on."

The man is subsequently restrained by police (PA)

Lord Monckton said: "Police advised against the meeting at the townhouse. That of course indicates a problem with democracy in Scotland.

"Only one view - the party line - is permitted and anyone who wishes to go in another direction is threatened in the street, menaced, attacked and now we have a meeting cancelled because people wish to stop it by violence."

Officers at Police Scotland yesterday confirmed they had passed on reports of planned protests against Ukip.

The Marriott said it cancelled the provisional booking for the press conference because the hotel was too busy.

I can confirm that every hotel in Aberdeen is busy at the moment.
Offshore workers and conference delegates are better business than publicity seeking fringe politicians.

what makes them (ukip) so sure it would be "violent protests"? perhaps the polis just thought they had better things to do than marshall a "baying mob". I think Mr Farange and his ilk will be sent home to think again when the votes are counted. It's quite plain his brand of politics, isn't our cup of tea.

It's a funny thing up here. The Scots are a very unpredictable race, if something takes their hump. And you never know what will set them off. Honestly, if what happened in Woolwich, took place in weegieland, I think they would have cut their balls off. #-o As for Nigel Farage, visiting Aberdeen, who the fuc* in their right mind wants to go there? #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o #-o
