Round here we've got the community transport funded by Ashfield Council and Notts County Council that do the work of us Taxi Drivers. They've got some nice motors all paid for by the Councils.

They was out last night dropping people off at 23:30 hours in Mansfield, a bus full of 8, £4 each for a 3 mile journey. They aren't supposed to be used for that purpose are they?

The council are cheaper outsourcing such work, School transport is only part of your average Taxi and PH's income and also only a part of the vehicles running costs.

If Taxis and PH's were not used then the LA's would need to buy a fleet of Dedicated vehicles and employ drivers and relief drivers to drive them, These Council Drivers would not work for the Peanuts that trade drivers or the self employed drivers work for, they'd also have rights to receive paid holidays and become part of the LA's pension schemes and the LA would need to contribute towards that as well

In our LA alone their must be at least 150 Daily School Runs go out to some pretty remote areas, There is no way the Council could afford a further 150 Vehicles, the Vehicle costs depreciation. the Vehicle Maintenance, the Extra Insurance, the Drivers and their wages, the Fuel costs and Extra pension costs.

Even if they Did all this the nett gain to the nation would in fact become a nett loss as Several thousand Taxi and PH drivers reliant on the work lose their Jobs and become Dependent on state benefits and stop being contributing tax payers.

Now...Surely any level headed right thinking LA or Politician would realise that a change to In house LA transport would be monetary Suicide.

Still.........Councillors and Politicians are often so far removed from the workings of the real world and on how market forces work that they have no idea of the true cost of anything, nor can they tell the difference between a saving or a loss.

That's how Taxis and PH work, we become cost effective through volume of work carried out..something no LA could ever manage to do.

This guy just seems to hate the Taxi PH trade, he's had a go at the trade before..I'm beginning to wonder if one of you chaps out there maybe Short changed him or took him a long cut rather as a short cut and he's grinding his axe out of malice and not out of consideration for the Tax Payer..

One day soon many of these Community Transport types and Community Interest Companies (CIC's)will get what's coming to them as the EU realises what a bunch of Pseudo Charitable fraudsters they truly are..Taking but a single penny for a journey is Hire for Reward and the EU seems to be catching up with their little scam..Roll on the day.

My problems with Cabs doing this work are that the industry is not regulated enough many cab drivers PH and Hack cover this work in an physically exhausted condition down to greed and the considerable chance that they get driven by a specimen such as Wannabe....................a racist fascist nasty piece of excretia.

This work should be covered by properly trained Drivers and Escorts in Council owned and maintained vehicles, thereby ensuring the Children OAP'S etc are transported in a safe and regulated vehicle. Naturally the staff on these vehicles should be full time employees of the Council and have full employment rights

No child should ever be transported without an escort imagine any of your children grandchildren being in the company of the likes of Wannabe...............TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE

As for the cost who cares ............................SAFETY FIRST ALWAYS

Yer a feckwitted neanderthal...do you suppose the DBS checks etc are any less stringent for a PH/Taxi driver as they are for an Ambulance driver or Escort. Also, when an Escort is required they are requested by or supplied by the LA, just because It's not an Ambulance or a Council vehicle or driver does not mean that it is any way less capable of doing basic forms of work such as School Contracts or basic patient transport.

bloodknock getting yer children to write posts now i see

Look MUG most cab drivers work ridiculous hours with no checks upon them as you well know
Many cabs as often reported on here are in appalling state of maintenance .
If the likes of WANNA can obtain a licence clearly all checks are flawed
Theres 3 essential requirements the present system fails to address therefore the Tory's are right take this work away from the cab industry NOW
