Britain's decision to leave the EU has led to a "dramatic deterioration" in economic activity, not seen since the aftermath of the financial crisis. Data from IHS Markit's Purchasing Managers' Index, or PMI, shows a fall to 47.7 in July, the lowest level since April in 2009. A reading below 50 indicates contraction. Both manufacturing and service sectors saw a decline in output and orders. However, exports picked up, driven by the weakening of the pound. The report surveyed more than 650 services companies, from sectors including transport, business services, computing and restaurants. It asked them: "Is the level of business activity at your company higher, the same or lower than one month ago?" It also asked manufacturers whether production had gone up or down. The PMI is the first significant set of data measuring business reaction to the result of the UK referendum. Okay queue the deniers That said I have yet to notice any significant difference round our way |

I wouldn't believe everything the BBC and Sky churns out. Funny how employment is on it's way up yet the country is on a slow down. It could be a plethora of issues like the rise in oil prices being one of them but oh no they won't mention that. My dog did a shit on the hallway carpet last night, I'll blame that on Brexit shall I? |

As you allude no difference out on the streets, unfortunately that will change (a bit) to give the "Stockmarkets" (who have caused this problem) some credibility. Nothing in reality has actually changed (we are still in the EU), but the gamblers are dictating otherwise. The bottom line being is that there is a queue of countries pushing us to do business with them - I still do not regret my OUT vote and would do it again as I believe in trading with the other 160+ other countries out there. A recession never really affects the rich, and will marginally affect the rest of us if the pound really bottoms, (I cannot see that happening) as the economy is (apparently) in good condition. |

A load of Krap...the whole world is on the economic edge and it's not just Brexit that's creating it as it's been on the slide for a long time. anyhoo...we all should expect a wee bit of pain before we enjoy a lot of post EU gain, we knew that and the overall noises from the rest of the world seem to be far more positive for Britain than they are for the EU as a whole. |

What you on about Scotland is staying in the EU Sturgeon has already organised that allegedly remember Scotland voted stay England and wales voted out ![]() Funny how the SNP wanted to Leave the Uk less than 2 years ago even though they knew full well that if they did they would have had to leave the EU as well. Besides, we voted to remain in the UK knowing that we would one day have an EU referendum which could have went either way...as it happened it went Brexit....so the wee whinger Sturgeon has no good argument for remaining in the EU, she also knows full well that when the UK does eventually leave the EU Scotland will have to leave as well...the EU has made that perfectly clear, and just as before in 2014 if another Indy ref should happen scotland would have to re apply for EU membership from scratch and meet all the fiscal targets the EU demands before it would even be considered for membership...so with that in mind the Scottish people are going to vote just as trhey did the last time to stay in the UK as the EU will not be an option. Also....Mrs May is not going to allow another Indy ref for years....Wee Jimmy Krankie Sturgeon can hop from foot to foot with rage, she can holler all she wants, but the fact is that she is just another passenger on the Brexit train like all the rest of the UK citizens...she is powerless. Maybe just for once she and the SNP can do what we pay them to do....Work at governing Scotland. |

You can see why they'd so like to remain in the EU, it's cos the lazy tvvats want the EU to do everything for them to allow them more time to pursue their real hobby...sniping over the Tweed at the English. |

Consumers are not spending If these shops closed within a month of Brexit then it's coincidence rather than cause, they must have been struggling well before the referendum to have rolled down the shutters after 4 weeks of boorish trading which so often occurs anyway as cash strapped parents cut back to help pay for their School and summer holidays. I'm about where I normally am for work at this time of year and it's usually Taxis and PH's that are the earliest barometer of people reining in their family spending...and I see no sign of that yet. |
