Can anyone tell me why Scotland has been left out of the plans for de-restriction and the implications (if any) that might befall us after March 2005. :?:

Who knows, I think it comes down to politics in the end, not the merits of the arguments.

From what we've found out about what goes on in Scotland in the past couple of years there seems to be more dishonesty about the whole thing.

For example, I was reading the ministers letter to the OFT the other day, and it said that the trade (ie the vested interests) put up a 'robust defence'.

From what we could see (primarily the Scottish Taxi Federation's response) it was a load of self-serving and misleading nonsense.

Who knows what will happen in the future, but it'll be interesting to see what happens when the Scottish Executive finally unveil their review of the legislation.

By the way, I think you sent us an email a couple of weeks ago - sorry for not responding - I meant to but have been very busy and forgot, and just remembered when I saw your post

From a place where plate transfers are illegal you would have thought that de-limitation wasn't needed. Alas some councils allow it via the back door.

Perhaps one day the dreaded EU will ride to your saviour and tell those in power the law on free movement of trade.

The quota in west lothian is set on 1 plate for every 1000 head of population.
The LA are setting up a forum of taxi/private hire owners/driver in the near future to discuss the trade.

Rab, are you related to weerab?

On another thread he said that the ratio was one per 10,000 people.

But the 1,000 certainly seems more feasible, since as I said in the other thread 10,000 would mean that West Lothian has a population of a million and a half, which doesn't seem feasible.

But is the ratio how they decide the number of taxis, or is that just what it comes to?

The La do regulate on population count and I have heard that this is not the correct way and would like to approach them.
