Good.. I would have been disappointed if you had... the Sefton hackney and private hire trade have just lost 70 per cent of their school contracts in the last two weeks to one such company.... it will be interesting to see over the next year if the trend continues in other areas....

Not you....Doom

Would it be fair to say that the harder the entry requirements, the more a driver will earn once licensed? :?

Maybe.......lets get into debt for an unknown income

All self employed people have to invest without really knowing what their income will be. Who is to say that the harder entry requirements will involve anymore debt than is already required to get into taxi driving anyway

I suggest you're having a blonde moment

Invariably people entering the new deregulated world are existing drivers, they go from a fixed number of vehicle licenses to infinity, I suggest they know what they can earn at the start, but as numbers rise it goes down.

Either way the radio circuit win because ranks become flooded.

There are many people who feed upon the taxi trade.. selling and repossessing vehicles many times from stupid drivers who thought they were going to make a fortune from driving a taxi... I say this from many years of watching this happen over and over again.

I was merely commenting that there are no guarantees with taxi driving even in regulated areas (where there is usually a higher % of PH drivers) . If the higher standards are applied to the driver and not the vehicle the increase in costs is minimal

The standards, London excluded, are pretty sh*t though.

Invariably the age limit and WAV only policy is what is put in place, all this effectively does is increase costs of operating for all, yet the income declines.

........ and that is why I believe the standards should be put on the driver. If they educate them well enough the drivers will be able to tell the council where they're going wrong

How dare you say that.....I have an opinion which isnt the same as yours.

To me have a decent, difficult knowledge system in place, steeped in the history of the area, and the ability to ask (in English) for an application form, and also the ability to fill it out in front of a licensing officer, should be sufficient.

But if we want a arguably open to be bent and corrupt training system, then we already got one of those too.

I dare because I can. I know your opinion is not the same as mine (how boring would that be), nor is mine the same as the corrupt training system that we have already, but, I think yours is a little basic and wouldn't make the trade professional would it

I think that beneath every smelly, ignorant and useless licensed driver there is a true cab driver bursting to break out.

I dont see how taking either a BTEC or NVQ with some of the current firms and unions out there, basically passing everyone makes him better.

Far better leaving it to me;

You smell, go home get a wash and then come back.

I dont speak that language, go home and learn English, then come back.

You cant spell your name, go home and learn.

Simple really, but not totally PC.
