Same amount of cabs, fares rise in line with inflation would have been a better title for this post, and who moved it from the Edinburgh back from the brink thread and gave it the title?

Less cabs than the market require perhaps would be better. Unless you think that no one will plate a vehicle if the council de-limit. :?

And is inflation 7% up there? :^o

As for the movement of the thread, maybe the admin thought it would be better if a new thread was created, as opposed to making a very long thread even longer.

But does it really matter? :?

Well if the rise is not implemented until next year that will make it two years since there was a rise, so it's not 7% per year is it?

I would imagine that other areas will get a rise in there tariffs as well, even the de-restricted ones, it is not just Edinburgh that puts the tariff up to meet the increasing costs is it?

This is presumably referring to the plate. No mention of the vehicle itself?

Do you think they're being deliberately opaque, or do they just not know the real situation?

Correct me if I am wrong but Mr Muldoon wants do dilute the hail market by putting on more buses and the call market by putting on more Ph.

Is this a simplistic or realistic view of the situation bearing in mind that we are losing our market share to someone?

Perhaps the customers are being abducted by aliens  Maybe Mr Muldoon is one of them? 8)

Instead, Mr Muldoon suggested there should be an expansion of Lothian Buses' night bus network.

He said: "I would like to see more night buses on the road, especially during busy periods.

"The city should look to increase bus coverage and by doing so give people more options."

You couldn't f***ing make it up.

The c*** wants more buses on the road to meet taxi un-met demand. [-(

The things folk say to keep plate premiums.

I find myself laughing at this to, and trust me the trade will see his comments perfectly acceptable.

Mr Muldoon should be made to explain to the trade wether he was misqouted by the Evening news (which is very common, as you well know) or he actually believes that crap,If he does truly think that providing more buses is the answer to some of the cab trades problems then his head should roll(and every effort will be made to assist from this quarter), and also, I doubt very much many in the trade will find his comments acceptable. He is of course chaiman of "City cabs" and the "Scottish taxi federation" and it appears holding these posts is becoming to much for him.

I’m starting to warm to the idea of having a restricted market, I mean why not, Mr. Muldoon is obviously barking mad and I would hate to be left out in the cold.

Our call market is dwindling because of the Ph taking it over as a niche market. Not forgetting that 2/3 of our overall market is call work.

The other 1/3 of the market is getting told to get on their bus by the chairman of the Scottish Taxi Federation and City Cabs.

Correct me if I am wrong but did Mr. Muldoon not say in another press article that the Ph is not taking our call market.

Well there you have it gentlemen the Edinburgh Taxi Feet is losing their market share but not only are we losing it to our competitors, we are giving it away.

RealCabforceforum I have got to hand it to your man Muldoon he has finally lost it. Anyone who has any doubt about the situation in Edinburgh can put their minds at rest they are all absolutely barking.

I think the alien abduction theory is as good as any when dealing with these guys.

Lets not lose a sense of perspective here, the Evening news has probably got it out of context.

The only thing that is out of context is Mr. Muldoon. Do you really think he represents anyone other that the pension fund group who are all ready for retirement.

This mans a dinosaur that should have been put out to grass years ago, but these guys are allowed to reinvent themselves time and time again.

Mark my words and mark them well. This 7% rise was needed but it will not be welcomed by the public. The public already think the Ph are cheaper than the black trade and they are probably right, the Ph will cut whatever deal necessary to get the work. They now not only beat us on price but the quality of vehicle and service as well. This tariff rise will force more and more of the public on to buses and into the welcoming arms of the Ph.

Mr. Muldoon was probably right we will need more buses especially at peak times.

Works after 2006

trams to Leith, Haymarket, Edinburgh Park and airport
Edinburgh Airport Rail Link
major upgrade of Waverley Station
Edinburgh to Glasgow rail link via Bathgate and Airdrie
South Suburban railway
Edinburgh to Galashiels and Tweedbank rail link

I think it's called an integrated transport policy, at least thats what they are telling us they are going to be doing.

Don't see much about taxi in there, perhaps we are an endangered species. Global warming, meteor strikes, tsunami's, hurricanes, the Ph, buses and Mr Muldoon

Sort of leaves you lost for words and that saying something coming from me.

There’s an easy answer though, keep a cap on the limit of taxis, put on Ph to meet the unmet demand, let the Ph in the bus lanes, give them advertising on the side of their vehicles like maybe their company phone number. Problem solved.

Silly me I only wished I’d thought of that and not Councillor Bell, sorry I meant Keith Bell.
