All this pro dereg lark, and general lets bash the hack lark doesn't hold up, you can post all you like about equality etc, but the bottom line is you want something for free, but what you don't know is once you've got it, it's worthless, tbh I can't even recognise anyone whose been in the trade less than 5 years, 10 preferably, all I read here adds up to 5 minute wonders who once they've ruined things will move on, recognise this, I'm a born cabby, I chose to be a cabby, many of you are numps that can't do anything else, I am not, but I crimge when you put forward your "good" ideas, so much so I'm about to inform the best part of 200 drivers of this site, just to get a balanced opinion of things, bottom line is you seek to be me, but once you are you won't want to be, you seek the virgin Mary, but after you've had your way she becomes the Lady of the Night Mary, now either stump up to join the elite or stfu and carry on paying 6k pa for a radio, makes 30k look cheap in the long run doesn't it.

Doom steady on old chap, I know you are only a youngster with 25 years in the trade, but eventually you will get used to the moaning. the conception that if something is free it is worthless is far beyond certain people's comprehension

I support deregulation

It worked for Soweto and Mississippi and it will work here

I think the reason for the moaning is more to do with the fact that a lot of drivers are conned into buying a WAV by the local Authority which puts them XXXXK in debt, the councils then delimit and the drivers then find that there is not enough work to then pay for it and the family home = Trapped = annoyed = frustrated = moan.

Thank you John, that is a very good way to look at it, add in that we seem to be the only industry that has to provide instant service to ppl, don't see ppl calling for bus deregulation and they happily wait for the bus, but when they want a cab it's supposed to materialise instantly, and the authorities seem to pander to this at our expence.

I thought the buses were already de-reg years ago or to be more correct privatized. Same horse different jockey. Even with all the subsidies you still don't get a decent bus service in some areas :-|

There are many drivers with two weeks experience, who talk more sense that some drivers with 30 years behind the wheel.

Time in is overrated, bitterness increases, and the concept of what other employment is out there numbs.

No one is a better man because of experience, it comes down to the character of an individual.

Tell me Doomy, do you celebrate Christmas?

And does that permanent cloud that's settled over your house interfere with the telly?

Yes I do celebrate Xmas, I've got the Xmas profile up now tbh

The cloud arrived with the meddlers tbh, when you've seen drivers print 30% discount flyers off their own back without asking the firm owner first you'll understand some of the dickheads I've had to endure, right now I've got one who wants to do away with holiday rates and nightrate and HMF's base entry rates, he thinks it's gonna generate more trade, what it will do is cost us another £4 per night of trade we already had, so I'll have to agree and disagree with you mate, as the driver in question has more years under his belt than me, but the 30% gang were 5 minute wonders, none of whom drive a cab anymore, and lets face it at the time would you want to discount an average fare of £2.20 by 30%, we had a lady driver who chaired our association, she did a lot of good, got bus lane use, uniform colour etc, since she quit we've had joker after joker running it, I was asked but tbh I've not the time or the inclination to lead it as everything you say will be met with disagreement, oh and some more fuel for it, one entertainment venue was taking pictures of us over ranking last night, but failed to take pictures of all the PHC's pirating on the drop off zone which was our old rank, which we got booted off of because we supposedly blocked access, so last night there's 2 minibuses and a limo stretched back where we had been blamed for, I had to mount the kerb to get around and traffic flow was at a standstill for about 4 minutes, so that cloud you mention isn't going to go away, and can you blame me for moaning about the weather now.

That's what happens in restricted areas. 8-[

Don't try and twist it Mark, it happens because there are too many ppl trying to earn from too few punters, hence the 30% discount idea, this isn't the affluent Sussex coast area, it's depressed city that can't even realise it has the sea by it.

doom everyone has a right to express there view's regardles of time in the trade. i have less than your time scale but that does not mean that my view's dont count tell me how many on this forum were born to be cabbies mmmmmmmmmmm not a lot most the jobs i have done over the years i never set out to do i just fell in to them.

i think you need to take a chill pill mate and dont let the idiots on here get to you as some of them have well over 10 years in the trade and only want to destroy it just look at the way they act in public and on this forum it make me laugh at time's the only people who love these guys are the local garages as they make a fortune form coffee sales

Thx Chip, you are right everyone should have an opinion and I got caught up in the what seems unlevel sides that seem to exist here, I only debate with Sussex, he makes sense, some of the time

The natural born cabby bit I suppose I should explain, it's not so common there's days, well at least not to see, back before the techno explosion of equipment you'd have to know where things were and be quick on both the microphone and gas pedal to earn anything, especially in a highly competitive office full of quality cabbies, this would sort out who could and who couldn't and ppl would join and leave within a month all the time, this sort of is a description of a NBC, add in a desire to do it fed by the idea of driving all day and my mates dad who was a cabby telling me his son would never be a cab driver seemed to tell me it was for me and when speed was the key to earning it I was good at it in all departments.

Anyway cheers again Chip. 8)
