Having quoted reasonable prices on a number of occasions .Resulting in abuse , example "i would like to rip your head off" I now tell customers all fares go on the metre.

I think on the meter is always best.
Customers think thye are getting ripped off if you go to little books or call your mate on the CB for a quote. And most times they are.

Do any others on here come across the use of CBs to gain quotes?

I would thought that the customer could be led into believing that the quote has come from a proper taxi office, instead of one of Cgull's mates.

God forbid Alex.

Lets face it the punters are confused enough by who is what, and what different cars can, or more importantly, can't do.

I would suggest that Mr Cgulls mate is much more qualified to give an accurate quote than a desk clerk in a booking office.

In a taxi the fare should be calculated on the meter every time, however if the P/H lads want to quote before the journey commenses then thats within their rights.

Or are we saying that the H/C lads are to blame AGAIN.

Sticking to the meter!

Does that include the out of District fares?

I recently caught a cab home from 15 miles away. It was from a Station rank and because I asked to go out of District the guy whacked it straight onto Tarriff 2, a 50% increase.

What you describe is not unusual, and the reason is this.

Fares are based on the probability of getting a fare to take you back to rank so within zone there is little dead milage.

out of zone you need to have protective cover for the dead miles comming back.

now tom, this is the way taxis work you private hire boys may do different and use differing equasions, although please dont assume all tariff 2 are 1 x50 ours is 1 x12.5%

your posting was unfair, as unlike you private hire boys he had no chance of a fair back.

I am a hackney, though admitedly I own quite a few. And I also depend on a mainline station rank.

A common error.

In delimited areas, where HC and PH share the same entry criteria, most HCs are really PH's with a license to ply. :wink:

I wasnt trying to be rude at all but explanatory!
you rely on a rail station? surely not, a hackney can go on public ranks within the zone, it does not work on an individuals preferences.

if you are a hackney then you should know the score? especialy if you have a few.?

I happen to operate in a town of 20K population that doesn't have a public rank at all.

The only rank is on station property, which you need a permit for. If I want to ply for hire on a public rank I have to drive 6 miles to the next town.

So if you want to keep lecturing me I will keep responding.

But perhaps you ought to learn this is a wide and varied industry and we don't don't all have to have the same solution to the a problem.

Thus it wouldn't make sense for Tom's vehicles not to be taxis.

Just been through the file. They definately say 'Licensed Hackney Carriage Vehicle'.

Well that is what 3/4 of them say, the others say Private Hire Vehicle.

Yes we are de limited.

But I wouldn't call it rural. Just unique :roll:
