There are only 2 companies producing taxis for the trade, I'm not counting bread vans, but the good old black cab, tx1 or 2s and the metro shed, Isn't it about time that a manufacturer decided that they could build one and sell it at less than 20k otr and can turn on a tanner and give change, and gets at least 40mpg in the town and does not go home for its holls every 5k miles at weekends, is made of plastic so when some nerd decides he wants to try and rearrange the bodywork we can laugh at him.
only costs 500 to insure, will run for 500,000 miles with no problems.
Dam I was dreaming again, do dreams come true????
shurly in this day and age the could lets all contact smart and see what they come up with

they probably dont because its only the UK that insists on PB. go to any other country and it's either saloon cars or mod'ded minivans.

Yes, the problem is that the market simply isn't big enough to mass produce a vehicle from scratch to satisfy the turning circle etc, thus we are stuck with the 'icon' made by just two manufacturers.

And with more LAs abandoning the turning circle, the likelihood of any future competition in LAs retaining it is lessened, because the total market for such vehicles is obviously decreasing.

Of course, once the turning circle is relaxed the ball game is changed because converting a van to be wheelchair accessible and a functional taxi is a lot more straightforward than converting a mass-produced vehicle to turn on a sixpence, which is presumably not economically (nor technically?) viable.
