A couple of weeks ago I arrived at the main station rank and was greeted by a police car with one of our drivers sat in the back of it. It turned out that he’d been ‘pinging’ ANPR cameras around the area for nearly two months due to not being insured!
I won’t say what cab it was on here but it’s probably worth £30,000 plus. He showed the police his emails and policy number and proof (through his bank) that he’d paid it all upfront at the time. There was no record on the MIB computer of the policy though. The copper was a decent guy and told him to park it up and not to drive it until he’s spoken to his insurance company/broker.
It later transpired that he had been insured but an admin error had occurred and his details hadn’t been put on to the MIB system. He’s now put in a claim for two days loss of earnings and is awaiting their reply.
