In English language that is the correct usage of the word.

So I was told over 40 years ago by my English teacher.

It does not have to be YOURS to use the word your!!!

The New Oxford Dictionary of English states;

your; possessive determiner - 1 belonging to or associated with the person or people that the speaker is addressing; 2 belonging to or associated with any person in general;

I thought you were associated with the NTA?

Going back to these sub offices.

I understand they had them in Wakefield and they were stopped.

Amongst the biggest opponants were other PH Operators.

They apparently have them in Derby, but planning consent is required.

There are two in Derby, both operated by the same PH firm & a number in Penzance, so I have been told.

Yes but there are conditions applied to the operators license, such as planning consent before the application.

In the case of Birmingham I presume no such thing currently exists, how can your LA then accept an application for something that doesnt exist?

If your LA are to consider 'sub offices' then I think thats fine, but giving you under a week to formulate an objection is clearly wrong and possibly against committee rules and your councils standing orders.

Believe it or not, in Brum, planning consent for PH offices / Licensed PH Operator premises is almost always done retrospectively. That is to say after the PH Opertor License has been granted.

And this was the case in the late 1970's when I first did a spell of PH. It has never changed & I have a sneaky feeling that if the truth was known, proper planning permission is rarely obtain retrospectively either.

And the very short consultaion period has well been noted, but the person we needed to speak to on Friday afternoon was not available / in a meeting & already had over 40 messages waiting for her. This line of objection is well in hand.

No problem BC.

I note what you state above and wonder if the planning permission aspect is something you should raise, even if you state something in a 'matter of fact' fashion.

It is reasonably certain any PH office will lead to PH vehicles waiting, thus creating an illegal rank.

What worries me most about your meeting this week is the consultation period which you are already aware of; I know up here by the time documents are on the Internet its actually too late to get anything else added for consideration.

To me your council are adopting / changing a policy towards private hire operators and you should have been consulted thoroughly, I'd have to ask why you were not consulted, after all you're consulted on everything else.

We can't believe the speed at which this has appeared on the Licensing Committee agenda.

If you go back to the 'Democracy in Birmingham' link, & then to the agenda for this meeting, within the 'paperwork' on the agenda for this item, 'Licensing of PH Sub Office' under one of the apendices, you will find the application letter from Five Star Cars. That letter is dated 4th September, 2009. Bearing in mind that the letter had to arrive at the Licensing Dept & the agenda was posted to councillors on 11th / 12th September, someone is trying to rush this item through yesterday.
