Also could someone clarify if a U-turn is done in one movement, rather than say 3 goes (as in a 3-point turn)?

It sounds as if you are having the same trouble with Plod the Sod as we are!!

What trouble are you having?

Not me personally, but Plod the Sod is giving out tickets like confetti to drivers that have for 30-40 years been doing U-Turns in Hill Street, Birmingham City centre to get onto the feeder rank for New Street Station.

I don't know the exact details, but I believe they are being done for causing an obstruction to other traffic as they do the U-Turn. There are no NO U-TURN signs along any part of Hill Street, but Plod the Sod says that if you do a U-Turn & a vehilce comes round the corner into Hill Street & has to brake & reduce speed because of a taxi doing a U-Turn, that's enough for causing an obstruction to traffic.

It's all to do with over-ranking, as New Street Staion will work about 2,000 to 3,000 cabs between 07.00hrs & mid-day, Monday to Friday & there are only official spaces for about 45 cabs, with a further 100-140 over-ranking outside the station, all having to do a U-Turn to get onto the rank proper, as the rank constantly moves forward.

But it's the tickets for doing a U-Turn that are causing the problems now.

Tell the Cabbies then to stop doing a full U turn in that location and turn it into a three point turn where I have never heard or even the highway code it's illegal to do a three point turn. As you mention Brum the plod's excuse is anything coming around the bend too fast could collide while your doing your manouver would be the same scenario if you were stuck in standstill trafic and they bombed around the corner into the back of you, it would be there fault as we all know. How can you be causing an obstruction if your wheels are in motion? Anyway I've never made a U turn but I can make it's bloody eyes water.

Why wouldn't it be?

The council obviously put that no-right turn there for a reason - in this case, to stop people using Riggindale Road as a rat-run to avoid faffing about on the Streatham one-way system.

As you rightly say, it's not illegal, although it's probably safer just to let cars turn right, but the residents around going to be happy about it though.

Not familar with that part of London being a Canary.

On my patch, on leaving Dagenham East Station I am faced with a no U turn sign so I turn left into the first road and do an Immidate U turn which happens to be right outside Dagenham Nick. Never had a problem doing it.
