As i understand it a hac doesnt need one at any time within his district, a ph doesnt need one providing he is hired.
Both need one out of area.

But i could be wrong!
Thats exactly the same way the law is here as well.

Spot on.

Hack only needs one when he's out of area, Empty.

Within the licensing area a hack doesn't need one when plying for hire or carrying passengers.

Private hire are only exempt when they have passengers in.

It would prove an interesting case if a cabby was pulled for not wearing a seat belt while in their own area and using the vehicle for pleasure?

I cannot for the life of me see what this is all about, not having to wear seatbelts, I know its legal stuff but in todays world it dangerous not to have your belt on all the time

sure I see cab drivers and PH drivers running about with no seatbelts on together with their passengers unbelted, even passengers hanging out of windows, doesn't look good to the general public does it

most Hack and PH have very modern vehicles, if your going to have an accident its going to happen in the street at around 30mph

the stuff your motor is loaded with ie belts and safety equipment its there to save your life or from injury, and lets face it in the even of a claim your claim will be 50% down cos you or your passengers didn't have seat belts on, known fact

another known fact is in the event of an accident and you have no seat belt on it is well documented that an airbag can do lots of damage to you

why risk it for the sake of a couple of quid job, if you drove a HGV the first thing you would do would be to make sure the load is secure before you set off

I thinks in this day and age its to dangerous to drive or not force your passengers to belt up

you know it makes sense, seatbelts on as well as the passengers, you soon get use to it, one day it may save your life

So are you saying that every sat night you refuse to move until your passengers and yourself are belted up :-k #-o :^o

Your spot on Mr Badger, no seat belts or refuse to put them on, I NO GO, I need to live another day, unlike you maybe I'm on the down hill side of life, every day counts, its a bonus to live a bit longer, not to be taken out and leaving my wife to cope on her own for the sake of a few quid job

there aren't many cabs now who don't apply this rule in our area who stipulate seatbelts on

listen in, I have had a woman bang her head on the windscreen, had a bloke come through the front one fist in my face the other into the windscreen after braking hard for a p*ss head who ran across the road,
get into my cab no seatbelts on, no go full stop, find another mug driver who will take you or doesn't care

suppose you are one of the drivers who don't care about passengers being belted up

Mr Badger

In the City of York we have around 35 cyclist policemen, they ride around the city, even the best driver with the best eyesight cannot spot these cycle policemen until they come along side you, they just look like another bike rider until they get close, they tap on the window for you to pull over

now when they the cycle policemen pull you over, when they have spotted that the passengers have not got seat belts on, the police ask you whilst they are making out the ticket, "driver" can you stop the meter" whilst we impose the law, this can take 20 minutes, why should I have to put up with it, so to make the most of my time at work, passengers are told by me, seat belts on, if they don't like it tough, get out go else where

Mr Badger

My seatbelt goes on around myself as soon as I leave my house drive way for work, every trip from the rank the seatbelt goes on, the passengers are told seat belts on, but most do seem to belt up without being asked
makes sense don't it Mr Badger

That was my feeling about not wearing a seatbelt; although I've always put mine on if I cross into another district as I thought that was was the wording meant.

How do PB with bulkheads fare in this? The pax can't play with the seat belt? Should it be worn, or is it personal choice in this situation? I should imagine that the relevant laws predate PB cabs in the majority

hmmmm

punters putting seatbelts around the taxi drivers neck, should be more careful who you pick up

the reason why taxi drivers are excused seatbelts is because they are in and out of the cab on short jobs, ie. luggage from the boot

the goverment has tightened up on van delievery drivers, so they must wear seatbelts, so milkmen and taxi drivers will be next, wait and see

So what your saying is that police pressure has made you make sure that the passengers are belted up Mr Stinky Pete. Yes i do care about passenger safety  but at the end of the day if they also refuse to put the belt on, that is their decision and them whom get fined, Mr Stinky Pete

Mr Pete.

Ah, Mr Badger you responded

No, read my lips, police pressure has not made sure that my passengers are belted up, its to do with Health and Safety, and customer care, all the stuff in my motor, all the safety devices must be taken as an advantage for safety, seat belts on is the first stop, remember when I hit the brakes hard it goes into electronic mode, sensors pick up you are braking hard so they take over and do the rest and put them on even harder, hey I can stop on a sixpence, I can tip it up on the front wheels

have no doubts Mr Badger if a passenger hurts themselves in my taxi, whats the next thing they are going to do, yes, you got it right, their going to make a claim against me and call me all sorts of names and give me grief if they bang their heads. I am in full control of my vehicle, but can't say for p*ss heads who run across the street or stupid car drivers

NOT IN MY TAXI
they do as they are told, I'm Boss of this machine, or get out, some of us ain't bothered how fast you can set of the rank and get back for another job, gotta live another day, thats my motto
