The point was not about taxi-cards it was avout a disabled person approaching a taxi rank but was unable to get a taxi when he rank was full of taxis.

If your council don't seem to give a stuff, and if your mum was blanked by a whole rank full then they should, I would contact your local disabled federation.

Maybe they will have a bit more clout, and the council wont be able to ignore them.

She could not get in the first 5 or 6 taxis because caravelles have a very high enterance and she could not lift her leg that high (she has tried in the past).

Cash and the taxi-card but what difference does it make. It was not about the taxi-card. She could not get a taxi as she was disabled.

Do you think that every single taxi should be equipted to cope with every single conciveable disability?

Meanwhile back in the real world..........

Yes, it is a real problem, that some on this site refuse to accept, but access and egress to converted vans is a real problem for the elderly and infirm. Many prefer "real" Taxi's, and will not use the E7, Scotcab, etc, (face up to it, it does not matter who does the conversion, they are all based on a delivery van) type of conversion, the running board type step on one type is just an accident waiting to happen.

I drive a Eurobus that is takes wheelchairs and has an electric step for the people that cant get into such taxis as caravelles, I have never had to ask anybody to get another car.
Never any trouble with the Eurobus breaking down and this is my second.

I think the issue here is it is down to mummy Rab as to whether she can get into any particular vehicle or not. Not down to the driver to pick and choose which customer he can take.

Unless of course mummy rab is a drunken lout. :-$

I think the main issue is that the whole thing is a wheelchair/vehicle spec thing is a shambles, and if the DfT haven't sorted it after 10 years then it's unsurprsing that hundreds of LAs are making it worse with their own mini-shambles.
