Is a booking fee the same as an administration charge which is applied to account customers?

I would think so if it is a charge over and above the prescribed rate of fare.

I dont agree with Sussex on the credit card transactions either being an extra a driver can charge.....unless of course it is on the farecard.

Is the driver charging the customer or is the booking company charging the customer? The rules allow for overcharging outside the drivers LA anyway. The jobs discussed would be mostly outside LA, but starting or finishing there I suspect.
As for credit cards, If the job is done within the LA the metered rate must be applied...but you are asking for cash if the customer prefers to pay by card and is informed of the surcharge and is willing to pay it, then no problem. The metered rate + credit surcharge. Don’t forget that providing this EXTRA service is chargeable. The customer has no obligation to use this service but does have an obligation to pay the Metered rate.

The taxi fare is a byelaw.

You cannot charge more than the byelaw allows, I believe unless the surcharge is on the farecard to charge more than the metered fare would be illegal.

So with fares that either start or finish outside your area, you are ok to charge this admin charge?[/code]

If the fare starts or finishes outside your area, you can charge whatever you like, provided that this is agreed before the start of hire.

Absolutely correct.

Remember that the credit card charge is optional. The customer can always pay cash if they prefer so no breach of legislation setting fare limits.
