No CC our council only charge what is required to process the licences.
They have also taken into account the economic climate of the area

Would you care to try and elaborate, as to why every council charges different rates for the same process.

Would you prefer the government to set the rates I would, then at least all councils would be singing from the same hymn book

But there must be some type of enforcement? and your license fee includes vehicle test.......I can only think your license fee is subsidised by the tax payer........the wages of your licensing department must cost about the same as what they get in fees.....so who's paying for the rest?

Every council is different and has different rates of pay etc.......you should perhaps be more cynical about those that subsidise the licensing scheme......invariably those are the ones that arent doing the job properly and it comes back to haunt licensees.

I would prefer the government to leave LA's alone.

I think you will find these figures well out of date. and it will be more like 400 cars and 450 drivers

Our council have in the last month centralised all licencing and closed 2 unnecessary offices
They have also increased the number of hours that the enforcement officers now work as there are now only 2 instead of 4, so the extra wages are covered by the missing 2
I know they pay the testing station £20 per test.

Now what do we get for the £170.
Vehicle test, police check every year after the initial CRB
1 piece of folded A4 paper with the usual licence questions
3 month visual vehicle safety check
postage for licence docs

It only takes around half an hour to reach the main areas.
if we are required for a safety check we receive a letter informing us of a time scale IE 9AM to 3PM to turn up.

The rest of the licencing team takes over.
All car licencing fees have to be paid before the 1st of April every year regardless of when the test is due
all drivers fee's must be paid and any docs submitted 2 weeks before the expiry date

Ive never had to pay all fees by the 1st of april to the SBC...I started in June 2000 oatcake and all my dates stem back to that date , cars and drivers fees and tests all revolve around that date for me..

Why does it cost more for hackney driver and vehicle licences than private hire, any reason for that?

It shouldn't unless hackney badges are made with a different strength of plastic, or a lower level employee does the processing of PH badges.

It would be an interesting question for someone to ask.
