Five drunks present a potential high risk to the driver.

A passenger not wearing a seatbelt presents a risk

Carrying certain packages on account for businesses carry may carry a risk.

A husband and wife arguing presents a risk.

Assisting a passenger with luggage presents a risk.

As I said, the wheelchair assessment is a mere fraction of the drivers daily routine.

Yes, but you don't need exemption not to do all of the above nor do you need a specialized vehicle with special procedures.

And no one will immediately jump to take the moral high ground if you refuse on H&S issue.

The councilors and even the guys you work beside are looking for a victim to suit their own agenda of being good guys, all elective candidates to some sort of position even if it’s just to look good in front of their wife.

“Look at me I’m a hero and he’s a bad guy gosh do I feel good”

As I said before dignity is a two way street. If you feel pressured into doing the job even against your better judgment then something is very wrong.

I’ve seen guys wrestle wheelchairs into taxis that should have never been picked up in the first place. On one occasion I even helped the driver get one in. We are talking a good 18-20 stones here right at the front of the Gyle shopping centre. The taxi driver was terrified to refuse.

Absolute bloody madness!

Just so you know my risk assessment was medium to high risk depending on the capabilities of the driver. The H&S Report puts it into the high risk bracket in almost all circumstances regardless of the physical ability of the driver. How many wheelchair users are under the weight of 6 stones?

It is a disgrace that wheelchair users do not have a proper hanicab fleet. Nor should they be wrestled into the back of a vehicle which is totally unsuitable with the driver uninsured.

Taxis doing wheelchair work was just a cheap option for the council to pass on the cost and responsibility for doing the job. “Not our problem your problem”

I can just see council employees or ambulance men for that matter doing the job under these circumstances.

"here's your nice shinny TX/Metro away and pick up wheelchairs. You have to do the job yourself and are uninsured. BTW if the customer is over 6 stones then tuff don't come running to us if you have an accident".

Okay then when do I start?

Its okay skull, I thought I'd check out if the assessment was discriminatory, so we'll find out soon if we can use it everywhere.

If we can I'll change one or two things and take the credit

(only joking)

It needs added to (in my opinion), covering the different kinds of hazards that need considered as risks.

I was looking at our health and safety policy at work today, I think I'll add it in there as a useful guide to my own drivers.

I'm sure you will? That way if something does go wrong you can point out to your drivers they were well informed but you and I know different, don't we captain cab.

BTW the fact you have read that anyone over the weight of six stone presents a high risk to the driver you are held responsible and obligated to inform your drives of he facts.

Knowledge is a powerful thing.

We already have a health and safety policy because we a reasonably large business with a turnover into the hundreds of thousands.

I would do what you suggest tommorrow, but unfortunately I am playing golf. Dont worry, my cabs will still be at work! Because if drivers dont turn in we tend to dismiss them.

I really want to find out more information on those cheap foreign workers like they have in Darlington and Plymouth. I reckon I could save lots of money in wages by employing those as opposed to locals. (if the foreigners dont work I suppose we could get them deported).

Technically yes but one was a transaction involving a fiend who was seriously ill. I had to buy a half share to give him money and run the vehicle. It was apparent after a few months he wasn't coming back. I then bought him out of the full share and sold it again.

I take it you have a point.

I make no secret of things I have done in the past Captain.

Life is too short this is why I would not live under the shadow of anyone, brothers or the council.

I'll take my chances just to know I am answerable to no one, unlike you. The price you pay is way to high for me and you haven't parted with a penny.

Whoever said "it's not about the winning or the losing it's about taking part" knew exactly what he was talking about.

You Captain have never taken part in anything.
