But LTI cabs don't comply with European disability laws  on the grounds they cannot accommodate a full sized wheelchair

To my knowledge there is no automatic version & I don't think they will be making one soon either.

If they get London on their list, trust me there will be.

Otherwise not many folks are going to go manual in the big smoke, me included, even for a cheaper Taxi.

Spoke to Richard Coleman, branch manager of Allied Vehicles (Cab Direct), Coventry today, who told me that the E7 with auto gearbox will be available in about 12-18 months.

Have you been talking to them already Mr GBC?

They were telling customers that at the Donington Taxi Show back in 2002.

Of course the TX1, 2, (miss out 3), 4 isn't & neither was the FX2, 3, & 4.

They all had bits & pieces borrowed from several vehicle manufacturers.

At least the E7 joiner's / plumber's van, or bread-van as they are called in Brum, has been wholly manufactured & engineered by a world renowned motor manufacturer & not a loss making, tu'penny ha'penny, back street, sold out to China, marginal motor producer that only sell their vehicles because the PCO in London insists on the archaic 25 foot turning circle for a licensed taxi.

The story behind the E7 case
its just a pity that they left out that saloons must also be licenced to give all disabled a chance of obtaining a cab from a rank or being hailed from the street, without the need to wait on a PH turning up

The new version is a converted pickfords removals van.

That may be so, but what really niggles is ..... how many other European countries have anywhere near the standard of taxi provision for the wheelchair disabled as does the UK?

And so that Skippy41 never has to buy a WAV, by any chance?

Who cares?

If drivers want an overpriced cab doing none to the gallon, then the TX4 will be the one for them.

If they don't, then they can take their chances on the others.

At least the NEW E7 can get the skis in at the airport for the winter holidayers!

Even if you remove the back seats the rear is still not long enough for 3 metre lengths of copper pipe ..... so no good for my other job as a plumber.

And it's also too short to fit an 8 x 4 sheet of plywood, chipboard, blockboard or plasterboard ..... so no good for my second other job as a builder either.

:-| :-| :) :) :) :D :D :D :D

And what if you got if you remove the back seats ???

Yep a van....look my point is simply this..
I do not agree with LTI overcharging for their vehicles but, the london hack is and always be a Taxi ! has been for 50 years or so.
Conversions will never emulate the iconic look.
They're like any other vehicles, some bad ones and some good but they still are the only ever purpose built Taxi.
