Title Letter announcing Regulatory Reform Order (2008) No. 2840 Subject LEGISLATION - LOCAL GOVERNMENT Department for Communities and Local Government Date Nov 17, 2008 Local authority chief executives and other council staff with legal responsibility for legislation are advised by the Department for Communities and Local Government that the Legislative Reform (Local Authority Consent Requirements) (England and Wales) Order 2008 came into force on October 30, 2008, removing the following requirements for Government consent: before instituting prosecutions for publishing advertisements on cancer treatment under Cancer Act 1939; to enable amalgamation of taxi licensing zones under Local Government Act 1972; to provide advice/assistance to bodies overseas under Local Government (Overseas Assistance) Act 1993; and for dealing with complaints in relation to Pupil Referral Units under Education Act 1996.
